Big XII is run like some of the banks. Unreal. Incompetancy at the highest levels that is all I can think of to see it like this. Relying on the BS to determine your Big XII south football winner?
Can't get a decent tv contract?

Just because the Big XII includes Aggie, doesn't mean it has to be run like it! Heck, going out on a limb here, but I bet Aggie could/would do a better job running the BIG XII.

Let me explain why I am irrate right now.

I have DISH network, and one of the largest packages. I have the BIG XII women's conference tourny on 3, count 'em 3 stations.... the Men's tourny is on.... wait for it... wait for it.... NONE. NOT unless earlier in the season I happened to purchase the ESPN FULL COURT package for $75 dollars. So I can sit at home and watch the tournaments of other conferences, but not the Big XII. I live in Texas.
I talked to the conference office earlier today. To a woman who is VERY sweet. She said the second game tonight isn't being shown even on a local channel in the DFW area. Say what?? DFW is the largest media market within the conference and the second game won't be shown unless you have ESPN Full Court!?
Why would the Conference ever negotiate a tv contract that won't either show the conference tournament or release it from ESPN to be shown without charge in Big XII markets?
I have NO idea why ESPN won't show regional coverages of Conference Tournaments, but they don't. And they don't have to since they own the rights to ours, but don't show it. I think that is insane.

What I like is I live in ACC country (Washington, DC), so the ACC game that would be on ESPN2 is actually on a network station, and ESPN2 is showing... wait for it... wait for it... 3 ESPNU guys sitting around talking about the conference tournaments.

Ugh.

it is Brulee... and try to watch the second one.... oh wait... the Mavs are going to be shown instead...

I am a big enough Big XII fan, that I think BOTH semifinals should be shown in the largest market.

Wish I could have seen the game.

So when do we leave the Big XII?

For the life of me, why Texas isn't on regular TV everytime they play... FIRE Conference.
Feckless Dan needs to go back to the North Country where he is from.

orange express.. 2 points

1) I have Time warner Cable internet.. which doesn't have ESPN 360

2) I live in Texas. I don't want to watch the game on my computer. I want to watch it on my 56inch tv. Do your damn job in the BIG XII office and get the games on TV.

Theu, maybe Dish Network is your problem - not the BIg 12.

If you're in Dallas, check ch. 52 and you'll get the Mizzou game tonight. Mavs are on 21. Or maybe you should check with your friend George W to come over and fix your tv. Or the Cable Guy.

Hook'em!!!

THEU, you have Dish and Time Warner Cable? Maybe you need a television technician to come to your house. But, I 'm sure this is a global problem, not something of yours.

horn69,
it is a product of the contract the BIG XII signed with ESPN. ESPN has the rights to a certain amount of BIG XII games a year. I can't recall off the top of my head, but I think it is 98, including the BIG XII Tourny. Because ESPN owns the rights, and they would rather show the ACC and Big East tournies on ESPN and ESPN2, then the BIG XII tourny gets regulated to ESPN FC. ESPN knows that not everyone has Full Court, so they make money by selling the rights to local channels. Major markets have non major network channels that will buy the rights to these games, which is why 21 and 52 in DFW will buy the game, and I believe the UT game was on Channel 2 in Houston.
I live where I get Waco locals, in Temple. I am just a bit too far to get Austin locals. Because Waco has no channels besides major national networks, there is no one to buy the rights from ESPN. So.... I am stuck with needing to have purchased ESPN FC during the regular season to see the game. As is, I am SOL. So I live in the middle of BIG XII territory, watching a game from Atlanta, and a game from NYC, on ESPN.
You can blame ESPN if you want, I blame the BIG XII for signing a contract which relegates the BIG XII to the fringes. Why do we not insist our tourny is shown on a major network.
I get the BIG XII women's tourny on 3 channels... Ironic, huh?

I live in San Antonio, which is a fairly large market, and there was NO broadcast TV of the game and NO cable coverage, and, get this, no RADIO coverage because of minor league hockey. That FREAKING BLOWS! Who is losing their job for putting this PooTVPoo platter together?

He's just angry cuz he got all them teeth and no toothbrush.

ilsa,
You should know both of those Waco affiliates are CBS affiliates also. Which means that sometimes they pick them up, but not prime time games. Also, KBTX is KWTX's sister station for College Station.

Bob, to answer your question about what I want... here is my answer. Surely, there is a balancing act between which company pays the conference the most money with the actual broadcast of games. Of course ESPN has MUCH higher broadcast/production standards than FSW. No one is agrueing that.
The issue is that all major conferences have their tournies at the same time. ESPN had, I assume, already committed to showing the Big East and ACC tournies, nationwide. If that is the case, the BIG XII should do their homework and NOT sell those games to ESPN, knowing they will be put on the back burner, aka ESPN FC.
My problem is probably dually with with conference and ESPN. I have 8 ESPN channels. Yet, ESPN choose not ot show the BIG XII tourny on any of those 8, but rather to show them on a pay per view basis.
The Conference office should have sold the tourny games as part of our ESPN package ONLY if ESPN was going to actually show them in the conference!

Bob, I am NOT finding fault with the regular season arrangement the conference has with ESPN. I am finding fault with the conference including our Conference Tourny in the same package.
I have DISH Network and Time Warner Cable internet, which are major media companies. I have the largest tv package that DISH has. I don't understand why the BIG XII can't work out the rights to show the game in ALL the BIG XII, when ESPN has not picked it up via their 8 regular channels.
I don't understand why ESPN can't show the BIG XII tourny games on ESPNA or ESPN2A?

If you read the explaination on the Big XII website, "Once ESPN has selected its 95 contests, the remaining games revert back to the member institutions for local or 'third-tier' rights packages."

My point is that MOST midsized markets in the BIG XII area, do NOT have 3rd tier channels. Due to cable and sat. tv, 3rd tier channels are nearly extinct. You can see above that San Antonio, which is no small market, doesn't have a 3rd tier station to pick up the games. This means MANY MANY fans get hosed.
I understand that Tim Allen, and Feckless Dan are doing their best to get the conference P-A-I-D, and they have done that. What I am pointing out is that they need to be sure they aren't screwing fans in the meantime.
For instance, answer me this, why is this so called Big 12 Network not on DISH? It is as silly to me at the Time Warner v. NFL network crap. The people at the top need to get things together BEFORE, they blunder into hosing fans to not see games.
If I JUST had rabbit ears, I wouldn't so much feel 'entitled' to see games. When I pay for a HUGE tv package with one of the largest tv providers in the country? Yea, I am real miffed at not seeing the tourny. Btw, that goes for the entire tourny.. not just seeing UT.

It is shocking that we don't get all the tourney games. (I watched the Mizzou/OSU game on channel 21 tape-delayed from 12:30 to 2:00 am. WTF?

The "Big 12 Network" is made up of the affiliates and cable/satellite providers that choose to air any particular game. It's not a stand-alone channel like the Big 10 Network.

You're venting. You think you should be getting what you want, and you can't. I understand the contract isn't what you want it to be. But you haven't addressed the issue of where they should go. When they went to the Wednesday-Saturday format, they knew most of the games would be going local.

They traded that for a bit less turmoil for the teams in the championship game going on to the tournament, more rest for everybody, and a chance that a tournament upset wouldn't knock out one of their own teams. That actually could pay off for them tonight.

Write the B12 (nicely). See what they say. I doubt you'll be happy, but at least you'll understand their position...

Bob,
I called. And I talked with a very polite woman at the office. She offered me Tim Allen's email, but I said I know he is busy with the tourny, I will try to contact him after the tourny is over.
I am sure she would tell you I was pleasant enough.

Now, I am pretty sure Feckless Dan, doesn't think I am pleasant, but that has come after numerous polite messages left over the course of months with no reply or return at all.

One word...DIRECTV.

I live in ACC country too (Chapel Hill) and I haven't missed a football or basketball game in years.

Channel 54 on Dish Network is hideous on LCD televisions. The picture is so fuzzy it's hard to read players' names. Your best bet is to watch the game on a regular tv when it's on 54.
