Indoor Austin wedding reception venues

So my wedding is in August 08. This is because my fiance is taking the bar in July, and we obviously want to do it before Labor Day/football season. Therefore, it has to be inside. I am inches away from signing a contract to have the reception at the Driskill when my dad comes up with the idea of having a less expensive wedding and a cash bonus for my fiance and me.
This obviously caused my ears to perk up. If I was able to have the wedding outside, I could easily cut costs and still have it be really nice and pretty and fun. But with it being in August, that just isn't a viable option. So does anyone have any other suggestions as far as indoor venues that aren't ugly or too small? (we will probably have at least 300 guests).

What is that place next to Scholz Biergarten?

I have been to a few there, it is a good room and seems cheap.

With 300 guests, your options are limited.

I hear that the Salt Lick Pavilion now has AC. My wife is a former wedding coordinator, and she LOVES the Pavilion. Of course, she also highly recommends the Driskill. Those are probably her two favorite reception sites.

A couple questions I guess. I don't really understand the groom's dad offering a cash bonus for a cheaper wedding. Wouldn't that be more in th realm of the bride's family to offer?
Also, you mention needing to find a place for the reception that is cheaper. Will the fellowship hall/fellowship area of the church be large enough to hold your guests? This should be pretty low cost.

My wife is a wedding planner and says that with that many people, you are pretty limited. Driskill, Four Seasons, Bob Bullock & Barton Creek will all hold that amount, but all come out to around the same price. The Hilton and Renaissance are lower priced. Also, the UT Ballroom (inside Union) is a great value & is big enough, You can bring in your own food as long as they serve it (hence, you can get a good caterer to make your food and drop it off for their staff to serve). At Alumni Center you have to use their caterer, so you are stuck with one price and there is not a lot of negotiating. Austin Club, Mercury Hall, Terrace Club WILL NOT hold that many people comfortably for an inside reception. Another option is the Blanton as they do events now, but some people can't see themselves getting married in a museum.

Good luck!

The Union Ballroom is definitely a cool spot. A good friend had a wedding there 3 years ago in early May. Lots of room and its cool to be on campus.

There's a big club/restaurant or something on top of the chase building on 6th street. I went to a wedding reception there once, it was a swee set up and great views of downtown and Town Lake.

No idea what it costs though, it didn't seem all that cheap though.

The Headliners......isn't that the one with the restrooms on the outside wall with huge windows from the top of the urinals to the ceiling, so that when you are taking a leak, you are overlooking downtown Austin?

Most indoor venues that are big enough to hold 300 people are just outside Austin.

We got married at Sendero Events Center in Liberty Hill but the owner is wanting to sell so I am not sure if they are currently booking for the future or not. It holds around 600 people or so and we had both the ceremony and reception there this past August.

Some other places to look at is Star Hill Ranch in Beecave, Creekside in Driftwood, Old Glory Ranch in Wimberley.

Now don't I have egg on my face. I apologising for reading that you were the groom! What an idiot I look like. WhoseHouse, just didn't seem like a female's name to me. That is entirely my fault and I apologise whole heartedly.

The place next to Scholz Garten is Saengerrunde Halle. Not sure if it would hole quite 300, but would be close. You can also rent the Scholz Biergarten for a small additional amount and easily get to 300.

I'm not sure of the current price, but we had our reception their about 10 years ago and I think the Hall was no more than $500 and we could bring in our own food. It was absolutely perfect for us and extremely economical (and a blast!). They were also extremely easy to work with.
