about when should my W2 forms be mailed out? i realize after december but i am definitely eager to do my taxes on turbotax. ready to get my return before i give my LF donation. <G>

By law, employers are required to mail W-2's to employees by January 31, 2005. But, some send it sooner. We normally send ours out to EE's by the 20th.

What will Uncle Sam do if I just send in my 1040 on January 1st and enclose my last paycheck stub rather than a w-2???

if you have the numbers and you're sure they're correct, submit electronically. you don't send in your w-2.

I recommend you wait, but I guess if there is a correction, you can fix it later.

When you EFILE, be sure to have the Tax ID's numbers for all emplloyers, and you can't EFILE until Jan15th (I believe). How do I know this, I work for Uncle Sam!

it get's kicked back -- no refund until the W-2 is sent in.

i tried that with a late coming 1099 a few years ago. thought everything was fine until 2 years later when i get a thick envelope from the IRS. now i wait on everything.

IRS wont kick back your return but they will wait til Feb 15 to process it then will wait another 6 weeks to mail it. so you can send it in on Jan 1 and get it in April or sned it in on Jan 15 and get it in late Feb or early March BTW the first official efile date is jan 15
