At about the 8:45 mark (second half) Hamilton was fouled
shooting a three. Bobby Knight says he will get three
foul shots (because he was in the act). Jordan makes the
first, misses the second, the ball was rebounded by aggy
and taken down the court.
Question: if the shooter was fouled 'in the act' shouldn't
he have had three foul shots, regardless if he misses any
of them? I guess I missed something, but am curious.

Just watched the replay on ESPN3 and I think you're right. The ref closest to the play raised his hand to indicate it was a 3-point attempt. I don't know if one of the other two guys overruled him, but they never mentioned it in the pbp or the commentary.

3-pointer means 3 shots, but whatever. I think everyone involved just figured to keep the game moving at that point.

Yeah, that was a very strange play. Hamilton was absolutely fouled in the act of shooting--he got his face raked by the defender, who also got a piece of the ball.

My best guess is the officials decided Hamilton was not entirely behind the arc and therefore only awarded two shots. However, someone in the game thread said the players behaved as if it were a 1-and-1, so perhaps the officials called the foul on the floor, before the shot, which would seem to be incorrect.

Who knows? Good thing we stomped aggy so bad that the play was a non-factor.

Monday's game was about as competitive as a Harlem Globetrotter/Washington Generals game. It's only natural the zebras were focused less on officiating and more on watching one team completely dismantle and embarrass the other.

Believe or not, Bobby and Brent don't always know what they're talking about. It's simple, they called the foul on the floor. 1 and 1.

i believe the official rule is: if the home team is getting destroyed by the visitor in college station, TX and a player from the visiting team is fouled in the act of shooting a 3, then the visiting player only gets 2 free throws - it's called the home court, let's get the game over with, pity rule.

It looked to me that he was fouled beyond the 3 point line too
but I also thought I heard the mic pick up the ref saying "1 and 1".
