Impact of Muschamp and Major

As the season draws closer to beginning I just can't wait to see the impact these two guys have on this program. To me, hiring these two guys is the best thing Mack's done to the program other than signing Vince Young.

After last year I think Mack saw the 2005 NC wearing thin and the natives were restless (some still are and some will be every time we don't win a NC). That said, Mack needed to shake up the program and I applaud him for making the effort because it's something that usually takes an act of Congress to do. The man hates change, let's face it.

Greg Robinson brought fire and passion to the team without question but Muschamp (IMO) brings better ideas, results and attitude. I think we have a good idea what we think we will get from Will but the X factor is...

I bet Major would have some interesting things to say behind closed doors about the program after seeing how it's done elsewhere. PLEASE, THIS IS NOT SUPPOSED TO INCITE A RIOT. I bet he has some awesome things to say about how it's done but he's probably got some things he thinks need to be done differently. What I wonder is how much he's able to throw his weight around. How are we to gauge Major's impact? I'm hoping it's in the # of plays audibled (personal opinion he thought GD's playcalling sucked and changed plays)

One thing is for sure...both of these guys have Bill in Sinton's focusness at levels unseen so it's obvious they have their **** straight.

Sorry if this has been discussed till puke in the offseason. I spent most of my time boring people posting stupid stuff that's been discussed till puke on other boards.

I believe Major's influence will be most apparent in the RBs ability to slow down the pass rush. I've read that one of his main focuses is getting the RBs in the right place at the right time by increasing understanding of the whole play.

It's interesting to note that the two quarterbacks the average fan would claim as the two most productive in Mack Brown's tenure are the two improvisors.

One frequently improvised before the snap with audibles, and one frequently improvised after the snap with athletic talent.

The man hates change only on the offensive side of the ball. One Offensive coordinator in 10 years and what, 5 during just the last 6 six years?

That said, I hope Major injects some change into Senior Davis' offense. I am NOT worried about the defense, even though not a single game has been played. I am just not worried about that side of the ball. This season is gonna surprise some folks.

I agree that Muschamp's biggest impact may be the 'attitude' that he brings to the team. That's partly the swagger that Vince once brought, partly the passion that Greg Robinson and Chizik brought, and partly the smash-mouth edge that Tomey brought. Plus, he sounds like a pretty good defensive schemer. And, finally, I think he can make our LB crew have an impact in ways that we just haven't been able to see (with the exception for DJ).

As for Major, my expectations are more modest. From what I understand, he is excellent at filmwork and breaking down other teams. So, I simply hope that he can partner with Davis to come up with better game plans.

I think it will be easy to see the effects Muschamp will have. Simply put, the proof will be in the pudding.
I exepct the D will be a little hamstrung due to freshmen safeties, but the front seven should be improved immediately if Will is doing his job. He's got lots of talent and experience to work with there.

I think our fanbase will be very disappointed if they are expecting wholesale changes in our playcalling and philosophy due to Major. I'm guessing his input in that regard will be minimal. Major's biggest impacts will be felt in recruiting, and bringing a shot of youthful enthusiasm to the team. Hopefully, they feed off it.

Well said, I can't wait either. And I have high expectations that these two will have impact to the program. Unfortunately, they won't be here long. Muschamp one or two years. Major three or four years.

I think Dick Tomey deserves some of the credit for the turn around in '04. I hope the defense will show as much improvement this year as (nearly) all of our fans assume that it will.

Muschamp's a terriffic Xs and Os guy (multiple SEC coaches have said privately that he may be #1 in the college game). However, he's going to be dealing with a different type of personnel than he had with LSU, Auburn, or the Dolphins. That will take some time. '09 is probably when you'll see the impact more clearly.
