I hate this justification as a reason to open the immigration spigot. Why the heck don't we focus our efforts on growing our own STEM graduates? The whole arguement that we need to bring in high end talent from other countries is preposterous.
You will never convince me that with all the engineering depts at all the universities we are not producing enough STEM oriented individuals. And you will never convince me that these folks are less capable than some 'joe' from another another country.
The problem is not in numbers or qualifications but in the fact that a US produced STEM graduate is looking to make 80K + whereas the tech company wants to pay them 40K.
If it truly is a shortage of qualitfied individuals then just pay 10K more annually and kids will flock to STEM training, especially in this job market.
