Image Nutsedge killer.......

I have only used organic stuff on my yard (bermudagrass). LadyBug 8-2-4, Corn Gluten Meal, Turf Topper from Geo Growers for top dressing, picking weeds by hand........

But I have a corner in my yard that last year had a nutsedge (nut grass) problem. I picked them by hand last year, and then 2 weeks later I picked up more, then 2 weeks picked up more... pain in the butt. I thought I got rid of it all only to find it back again this February.

I am thinking of going non-organic this time and using Image Nutsedge killer. Thoughts? My wife doesn't want me too but she isn't the one picking out weeds by hand either.

It is vicious, brutal stuff ---- and very expensive.

I like what Howard Garrett had to say about it:

“There is only one guaranteed, foolproof method to completely kill nutgrass. First, dig out every tiny piece of the plant including the seeds and nutlets. Make sure you sift the soil through a mesh screen. Dump the collected material on the driveway and burn it. Sweep up all the ashes and seal in a concrete box. Drive to the coast and dump the sealed box 20 miles off shore.”

I have a problem with it, too, if you can call it a problem. I've pulled my fair share of it up by hand and now I choose to look at it as a gift from the fates. After all, the tubers of nutsedge are so edible the plant is known as the “Earth Almond” and it is grown professionally in places. Indians knew that it was very nutritious.

So tell your neighbors that it isn't a weed, it's a cash crop.

it's actually only in a small area in the SE corner of my backyard. maybe ~15 feet by 15 feet. but it is very heavy in that area.
