I'm watching 'There will be blood'

maybe its better after watching it a few times, but I sat through it once. never again.

I think it's one of those movies, that when you watch it you don't really like it. But then you think about it afterwards, and you're think "That scene was good" and "I liked that one part a lot" and "That guy was really good" etc. So then you convince yourself it actually was entertaining. You watch it again and you're like meh.

...at least thats how it was for me.

It's about a film team that decided to use the same person to play two roles without really letting the audience in on the plan. The team then goes about telling the story of how an empty misanthrope with good business sense and a bottomless will for work connives and weedles and lies his way to a very prosperous oil concern while also fulfilling his desire to see no one else succeed. Ancillary stories involve unrelated relations and evangelical conceits, all of which the misanthrope expends his contempt upon. Great acting from the lead, strong direction, self-indulgent screen writing.

Message - bad people make capitalism look bad and capitalism is a perfect vehicle for bad people.

I thought it was amazing. The narrative was disjointed and unfocused, but the acting, score, and cinematography were mesmerizing. I'm not sure why I like it so much despite its obvious flaws. The reviewer for the New Yorker nailed it, I think:

As a guy that really appreciates indie/art type stuff let me jump in here and tell you hopeless, clueless, average joes what went on in this film. It sucked.
