I'm Going to Scare You

Mus
Damn if YOU are scared then it is serious
I just started watching and will watch it all later when I have time

Is this retired General credible?

I have no idea who this ex-general is, but the second clip is a more measured response from a nuclear engineer. That one is scary enough.

I've just made it through the beginning of the first one, but his shrill-tone and lack of documentation is aggravating.

For example, he says that nuclear power plants were sold to us as being "too safe to fail" but then then produces no evidence of this. I hate when I am asked to take somebody's word when they are basically aggregating/filtering everything that they read and hear through their own personal worldview and then trying to summarize it for the rest of us. If we were told these things about nuclear power, as he contends, it would be just as easy to say "General Electric President Bill Wilson testified before Congress on March 3, 1962, that ... blah blah blah."

I'm a little less impressed by "retired generals" than many. To my way of thinking, they are the equivalent of retired CEO's --very bright people, who rose to the top of their field, but having no special expertise outside their field,or at least their expertise carries a heavy bias. In their own minds, many seem to be the model of a modern major general, with expertise in every subject. I know that he is a 911 was an inside job" truther -- what he says may be true, but I won't trust it from him.

It goes without saying, of course, that I exempt West Mall's own military men, General35 and Majorwhiteapples. Their expertise is always welcome!

The first video has a lot of shock value and there is no way for a lay person to determine if the concerns (end of the world) is a bit over stated. The second video, while not as entertaining, professionally lays out the problems presented and the potential consequences.

The solution of Fukushima is largely political in nature. It will probably take $500 billion over 20 years to clean it up. Neither TEPCO nor Japan want to deal with this.

The design used at Fukushima is found in (20 something I believe) reactors in the US, hence the nuclear energy in the US doesn't want to spend billions of dollars it doesn't have to address design deficiencies. So damn safety concerns, we have to avoid bankruptcy and increase share price. And just like TEPCO has a lot of pull with the government of Japan, the nuclear energy companies are very powerful politically in the US.

It's really insane that we've created facilities where massive, lethal stockpiles of used fuel are stored on site without any means of addressing an emergency situation.

Interesting Musburger. Any idea what the situation is at the Matagorda Bay and teh Commanche Peak plants? Is Texas in danger of glowing burnt orange more than it already does?

I really don't know the situation there. I have read that there is an awful lot of corruption within the nuclear energy. Just as with BPs Verizon well, shortcuts are taken and bribes given to regulators in order to cut costs. Then something goes wrong and we all pay the price.
