I'm Embarrased

by the elbows thrown by Dexter and Wangmene. Really classless of them. An august institution as The University of Texas does not need its sports team representatives displaying such thuggery.

In Wangmene's defense, he did get seriously and unnecessarily clocked by a down-striking elbow, and it may have even been non-accidental. When you get hit that hard a reaction is instinctive, albeit wrong in the midst of competition.

I agree the call on Dex was pretty much the every day **** centers deal with.

The Wangmene incident was a little different and I pretty much agree with the call. He did react instinctively and in anger, which you just can't do on the court. The ejection was warranted based on the rule and I also agree that it was not flagrant enough to warrant suspension of a game. He just got a little too heated, cool off and learn from the mistake.

I didn't like the Pittman call because he was trying to use his strength to keep control of the ball.

I was in total shock when I saw Alexis do that. That guy just did that?

Little momentum killers like those, along with missing FTs and open threes gave us zero shot at winning this game.

I thought Dex's was stupid. Alexis had just taken a hard shot... sometimes it is instinctual to strike back when you are hit in the head. Pittman's was just stupid.

Wangmene should have been more subtle and measured in his retaliation. he should have figured out who hit him in the top of the head and then retaliated when the opportunity presented itself. Physical intimidation is part of the game.

By the rule, Alexis should have been thrown out. After the game, he apologized to the player (via text message) and the fans in a quote in the media. He knows he shouldn't have done it, and he'll learn from it.

I don't know about Dexter's. Maybe it was a little rough, but the ref was too quick with the T. A warning would have been better in that situation.

I am going to elbow some of you in the back of the head and see how you react. I am sure you will have no immediate, instinctual reaction. If you don't react to that the way he did, the species would have never survived and you need to stop breeding.

The only thing surprising to me was howmild the elbow he threw was. It should have been a foul on Jordan and a retaliation foul on Wangemene. End of story.

Dex's was total BS.

1. Should have been a foul not a jump ball.
2. Even if it was a jump, it was called to early
3. He was trying to secure the ball from the defender and the defender let up.

Aggie fan take:

The Wangmene elbow was unfortunate, and it was clearly a reaction to Jordan (maybe somewhat intentionally) landing on him after the miss, but you can't throw an elbow like that. You just cant.

Wangmene seems like a classy kid, and it seemed tough to throw him out, but that seems to be the letter of the law there.

Pittman's was just ******** in a rivalry game - call it a foul, or warn him, or whatever, and keep going - that was too big a momentum swing for us for a ticky tack forearm.

I love me some Bryan Davis, but if I was playing against him I know I'd be throwing some elbows myself.

As always, going to be a totally different game, and probably much less physical when it gets to Austin in a couple of weeks - should be interesting to see where both teams are at that point.

I thought the call on Dexter was ridiculous, and the call on Wangmene was appropriate. By his apology to the A&M player, as well as fans of both schools, it would appear that he agrees.

As seems to be the consensus, Dex's T was ridiculous.

Wangmene's reaction to what Jordan did was stupid. I love the kid plays and completely understand the reaction, but in high level basketball, you have to be able to control yourself. I think that what transpired there cost us any momentum that we had. When I played basketball I used to get hit with elbows all the time. You get them back later. You don't cost your team a chance to win the game.

As stated, Dexter was FOULED by the aggie trying to tie him up (I don't think it ever was a tie ball). Dex gave a shrug to get control of the ball, and then the aggie FLOPPED backwards. Dex never even hit him.

So instead of a foul on aggies, it's a foul on Pittman, and aggies get two free throws AND the ball, and they effectively get two possessions out of it.

It was a 4- to 6- point swing, plus our big man who was most effective last night will spend the second half in foul trouble, limiting his minutes.

Horrible call.

good take. i didn't see the Pittman one, but I did see the Wangmene incident. he deserved to get thrown out.

Jordan was being a jackass the whole game and I'm not surprised that he was the target of something done in retaliation. That said, it definitely didn't look like he hit Alexis in the head on purpose - just one of those things that happens when a ball is knocked loose and arms are flailing while people try to stay on their fleet. Also, while Jordan was being a jerk, he wasn't throwing elbows at people and no matter how mad Alexis was getting he had zero right to escalate things.

It turns out that this did happen to me in a game after I had scored 20 points in the first half (i.e. "accidentally" got an elbow to the top of my head that knocked me woozy). I did not immediately retaliate but got the guy later with a good hard screen (he was running hard and not looking in time) that knocked him on his rear. I don't think I even got called for an illegal screen.

Having said that, I am definitely not down on Wangmene for the play. He has played little basketball in his life and is still learning the ropes. I admire his fight and am sure that he will figure out how to retaliate in the future without getting thrown out of the game.
