The whole subject boils down to "Government has no freaking business in people's lives" and that's just how the Framers of the Constitution intended it. And for years everyone wanted to move here for the opportunites OF A FREE COUNTRY without a Government Lord.
What happened after the Civil War was creeping socialism. But the MOMENTUM of this country carried it into and through the 20th century. The dollar went off the gold standard in the early 70s, and the groundwork for the Fed to finally dump enough dollars from helicopters that the monetary base has ballooned to where it is today.
What's kept things "cool" for now is low VELOCITY -- the rate that dollars change hands. Just wait until Velocity kicks in and everyone wants to get rid of dollars...and there's been $6+ trillion dumped into the economy during Obama's time in office. Where is it? Why hasn't it created jobs? Why isn't the GDP annual growth rate higher?
Centralized government management of an economy has proven (best i can tell) to eventually implode.
I wish they would get rid of 95% of all the departments and agencies under the executive branch, and start with closing the HHS.
Develop a plan to phase out Social Security, change how it works. Pay in, you get paid out. Something different than the ponzi scheme it is now. Phase out Medicare and Medicaid. Come up with an alternate plan.
Forget national healthcare. Get the government out of the business of managing or having any hand in individual's health.
Basically close down as much of the government as possible. At the Federal Level. Learn to live with State government as the minimum government.
Where does that leave the citizens? Where do you think you'd be once you leave this plane of existence? Only self-reliant souls can exist in the pure spiritual worlds. There is no welfare system in the worlds beyond time and space.
We need a Republic of states, with a bare minimum national government. And I think Obama came along to demonstrate once and for all that big government sucks and can't be trusted.
Right now he is fast losing credibility with the international community, and on track to lose it domestically. With that goes credibility for government in general. Only to say it correctly... loss of credibility for political power.
The problem always is just one: political power corrupts the judgment. Even Gandalf knew that and would not trust himself with the Ring. So why trust Obama or anyone else who believes no way political power can corrupt them? Funny, but if someone showed up with the Ring, Obama would gladly take it and assume he could handle it. He's that way now with the most powerful office on earth.
Take this all in good jest if you will, but it came from serious thoughts behind it.

would be able to get more done if it did not suddenly require 60 votes in the Senate. in the long run I think we are going to look back in awe at how much was able to be accomplished despite that....Healthcare reform, repeal of DADT, expiration of Bush tax cuts, new CAFE standards, etc. would like to see immigration reform, legalization of gay marriage, legalization of pot, stricter gun laws limiting access to automatic weapons and large clip size and requiring mandatory background checks, campaign finance reform, scaling back of military industrial complx which includes spying, etc. in the should have been able to already have had immigration reform and gun law changes since those are supported so heavily by the people.

We don't need a single new immigration law. Just enforce the ones on the books and we wouldn't be having the problems that we have. Only dems, libs, and illegals think we need reform.
