I know this has been harped on many times but...

IF Portland takes KD, do they trade Zach Randolph? Maybe because of his attitude at the time but assuming no...

Andre Miller
Brandon Roy
KD
Lamarcus
Randolph

Best starting 5 ever?

Roy hasn't been starting this year, but I guess that's beside the point.

No, it's not the best ever. It's a great lineup, but outside of Durant, every other guy has had some pretty big question marks throughout their careers. Especially Randolph, who is playing for a new contract this year.

I'd say some of the Celtics teams from the mid-80s had a better 5-man starting group (Bird McHale Parish Ainge Johnson), coupled with a much better bench than what Portland would have with Durant. Or maybe even the Lakers the same year (Johnson Worthy Abdul-Jabbar Scott Green).

Or, going back to the olden days, it would be hard to top the 60s Celtics lineups.

Ok, EVER was a stretch. I admit it.

But the Celtics are NOT a better starting 5:
Assuming health but age is a factor

Rondo > Miller
No Doubt

Roy > Allen
Allen is a one trick Pony AT THIS AGE but Roy is lethal (assuming health)

Durant > Pierce
Duh!

Aldridge > Garnett
At this point in careers.

Randolph > Starting center for Boston

I cant see a better starting 5 this year however, Roy is damaged so that would hurt the question

Dennis Johnson, Ainge, Bird, McHale, Parish.

Maybe not the most athletic backcourt, but damn, some low post scorers, outside shooters, some of the best passers to ever play, and a good to great defensive team.

Funny how in the 80's a lot of people (e.g. me) got tired of Boston vs. LA finals, but you look at the starting lineups for each squad, and you could make an argument for either one having the best starting 5 in the history of the league.

And the Lakers had Coop, McAdoo, Walton, and guys of that caliber coming off the bench. Celts also had guys like Tiny Archibald and that guy with the weird shot that was a great scorer. Those teams were so stacked no one else had a chance. And yes, those teams would kick the crap out of any team out there this year.
