I'd just make a copy of Houston's SRO and rake in the cash. That place is big time. I was very impressed with it while we were hanging out before the Horns game a few weeks ago.
I always thought it'd be cool to have a "living room" in a sportsbar. rows of couches and la-z-boys in front of a big giant screen with awesome sound system. be cool for a back room.
Evil-You read my mind. I've always wondered why sports bars don't have couches. The best part of watching TV at home is sitting on the couch. By having a couch at a bar, there's no reason not to go to the bar instead of stay home.
I think one with pretty good food, waitresses with big thingies in shirts that are too tight and little ho shorts, classic-y rock, tons of TVs and a name like Boobs woudl be a great business plan.
1) lots and lots of TV's, plus several big screen jobbers with enough sattelites to pick up any broadcast sporting event in the world. Plus, I don't want to hear music, I want to hear the broadcast of whatever is on the nearest big screen.
2) Straightforward menu. Burgers (that don't cost 5.95), nachos, wings, cfs sandwich, cheese fries and very cold beer. Or like Nick's Place where you do Pizza and italian style food. Don't try to make a menu that the wives/girlfriends are going to like. They don't really want to be there and we don't really want them there.
hot waitresses, games, etc. are all good and vary, but if you don't have items 1&2 I don't want to go to your sports bar.
I would have to agree. SRO (Standing Room Only) is one of the best sports bars around. I make it a point to visit there if I am in Houston on the weekends.
SRO won me over for good the second I walked into the men's room and saw the FSU/NC game being shown on a 15" TV. Taking a piss while looking over my shoulder at a football game was a surreal experience.
Don't worry guys. A good sports bar in Austin will be here before you know it. Well, about 14 months anyway. I agree with all of you guys and can guarantee this place will pass the test with flying colors. Keep the suggestions coming.
I've been to Showplace in North Austin and that place is ok, nothing great. I've also been to Legends and wasn't impressed at all. We need a place like SRO in Austin. A place like that would rake in the bucks. Just set it up like a Vegas sportsbook with tables and chairs along with a bar in the back. Have waitresses come by for drinks and food or go to the window and order your own. Tv's need to be everywhere and lots of them.
i came up with an idea well over a year ago. i will offer a hint. it was listed as the hot spot in D Magazine in July 2001. someone just had more money than i did at the time to make it happen.
Don't try to open a sports bar. I've been here for 10 years and every time somoene opens a sports bar, it folds after a few months. Remember, this is Texas and the only sport people watch is football so you have about 5-6 months to make the money for your entire year. Not to mention there are no professional sports teams here and some people (may they catch the clap) don't follow college sports.
