IF this is true surely there must be a good reason for BO to not want innocent people to have life saving gas masks. He had long warned Assad to not use wmd so it couldn't have come as a surprise to BO if in fact Assad is the one who called for the chems

unsure of who exactly the rebels are, who they represent and what they are capable of?

the legit thought that they could end up in the hands of pro al Q and be used in Iraq, Afghanistan or other places to elevate the type of attack potential?

I am no fan of Obama (no, not an R either) but this makes legitimate military and strategic sense if one can get past political rhetoric and pre-conceived bias.
 
I am just speculating because I don't know anything about this subject other than what is in the linked article.

1. The rebels are bad people also, and we don't trust them. Maybe the masks end up being sold to AQ. We simply don't know.

2. As stated in the article, the request was made to the State Department. It is possible (maybe even probable) that the decision to not send masks was made by someone other than Obama. Logic dictates that he can not be involved in every decision made by State. No way.

3. Even if we had given the masks, how could you possibly know that they would have prevented any of these deaths? Who knows?

I totally get the fact that the author of the article and you don't like Obama. I think both of you are wrong...but I do understand your views. However, based on what we know, I think you are out of line to refer to him as a POS based just on this issue. You simply don't know enough of the facts.
 
Obama is a despicable liar of a man and is a destroyer of the Constitution. Anything is possible for this POS.
 
Eastern's points just underscore my puzzlement on what we're doing with this thing. We don't want to help the rebels win, but we want to go in and blow stuff up for a specific determined time line - which we announce beforehand to all the world. Then, we decide to go it alone (I thought that was a bad thing?) when none of our allies think they have any vested interest in getting involved.

I honestly haven't seen a single justification for this other than that Obama puffed his chest out and talked about "red lines", and now he has to go blow people up for a few days to make sure everyone knows he's serious - after which we apparently are just going to stop and go back to stern warnings to whoever out there is willing to listen to us.
 
horn6721 and dillohorn are certainly entitled to their opionions. I don't see Obama as one of history's most capable leaders, but haviing observed a few politicians, I think he's above average in terms of capabilities and about on par in terms of the telling the truth. Of course, I was alive and aware during the Nixon administration. While I've seen every administration since fudge, shade, color and spin the truth, Nixon-Agnew level dishonesty has only since been practicedby politicians on the state and local level.
 
You are also entitled to your opinion, but to say that Obama is above average in capabilities and truthfulness in just rediculous.

Croc isn't objective, so take his faint praise for what it is - a desperate attempt to link the words "intelligent" and "honest" to BO. I wish I had the time and energy to list his lies, I mean misstatements, I mean lies. We know that few of the absolute promises he made about Obamacare will turn out to be true, but luckily the MSM covers up all his lies so people like Croc will believe him. And the country spirals downward.

He has kept one promise - to have a new world order where countries are equal. I think recent events show that we are not the world leader we once were, and one that BO despised. So goody for him.

I wonder how many who bashed Bush for what they called cowboy diplomacy when he went to the UN , got congressional approval before doing any military action
I wonder how those people now feel about the debacle in front of us?
BO's MSM supporters are trying to pretend this is the reasoned approach even as they ignore all the stupid chit that came out of BO and the admin up until sat when BO flopped to the floor whining he wanted congressional approval.
I might even take Chicago Thug diplomacy instead of what we are seeing> BO doesn't even have the cajones to walk his talk.

I do not want him to send even a bottle rocket BUT once he started all the tough thug talk he put us in a really bad position

It's true there is no certainty the masks could have helped. It takes some time practicing how to properly and quickly don the mask in a tense situation (as best you can simulate) to get a solid seal. You practice all the time in the military and many just seem to have trouble when it's being timed and stress is placed in the mix.

Don the mask, sound the proper alarm let alone properly recognize the contagion or substance is not as easy as putting on a shirt in a matter of seconds. Also, would they have needed full MOPP suits? That too, takes time and practice. More than they currently have given they are involved in conflict and cannot dedicate time to just practice.
 
I was ranking Obama among "politicians" not presidents. Certainly I'm less than a ardent Obama defender and don't watch much MSNBC, though honesty it tries just as hard as
Fox to be objective. You guys know much about James Buchanan or Calvin Coolidge.
 
MSNBC "tries as hard as Fox to be objective?????" Obviously you don't watch it at all. Chris Matthews reiterated recently that people who criticize BO are racists, despite their statements that they only disagree with his actions.

Does anyone really the reason we didn't send gas masks even though the rebels( that now are so important BO wants to help them in every way including sending missiles against Assad's military) was because we thought they wouldn't know how to use them or they might sell them>

I am sure all requests pan out and all who claim intel on something is just how it goes down. That or there is only one request a year for something. And that the process is easy.

And yes, if you are going to req out masks you want to make sure they will actually be used and used properly first and foremost. I am going to assume you have never gone full MOPP, let alone in combat but even in training exercises or even bivouac.

It's not Land's End or Cabela's, buddy. I know you are either not all there or with it or just really good at trolling and that I should not have taken the bait. But there really is more to issues than meet the eye based on news reports. One does not simply request gas masks or other things and voila get them unless it's a really cool movie out in the summer or maybe the tv show, Burn Notice. Then again, he'd make his own.
 
I think the real news portion of Fox News is pretty fair. Maybe slightly biased, but if they have a R on they also have D on. The nighttime shows are not - they are totally biased towards the host's views. I understand that Rachel Maddow makes no pretense of being anything other than a flaming liberal, but Chris Matthews is on during real news time. And before him, I'm sure PoliticsNation with Al Sharpton is totally unbiased.

I think it would be difficult for someone who regularly watches the MSM to see bias in their programs, but see total bias in Fox News, since they often report things that the MSN ignores.

“The provision of protective gear for the opposition sounds like an easy idea, but we need consider the potential for misuse as well,” the official said. “Such equipment requires proper training to be effective, and we need to be careful about how and to whom we provide it.”

What if even only 5% were used effectively and that saved the 1400 BO says< with NO proof> that died?

And we are worried about gas masks falling into the wrong hands but BO isn't worried about any weapons we send falling into the wrong hands?

Arguing generally is a waste of time. Discussion and debate on the other hand can be productive, but when both sides are unwavering in the belief that they are completely right and the other is completely wrong, what's the point?
