If Obama and Reid don't budge, then...

... put it all on them and let keep it shutdown, and don't raise the debt limit. PERIOD.
I am not afraid of economic consequences. I was giving benefit of the doubt to all parties, but now it's all on Obama and the Democratic majority in the Senate.

So if they want to play chicken, and set a horrible precedence of a single ruler in office pursing this kind of tactic, then let them take it on the cuff. The House sets the spending, and it's up to the President, and the Senate, to NEGOTIATE. PERIOD.

I'm all for letting it all go through with no more actions, and let Obama and Reid just eat it.

I am not afraid of the consequences, and I refuse to bow down out of fear of consequences.

Let this sitting President deal with the consequences... which in this case, is as he said in 2006... failed leadership.

I didn't say it, he did. As a Senator. So, Mr President.. with all due respect, Sir, as the saying goes.... no, I should not be so rude.

Your call.

there are apparently enough votes to pass a clean bill. the fact that boehner will not put that up for a vote to see is why he is to blame. he won't put it up for a vote because he knows it will pass.

if this were not the case then that would signal to the President and Senate a need to give up more ground.

As I understand it, it's the responsibility of the House to manage the purse strings. That was purposely put into the Constitution because if the King can tax as he pleases, then you have Kingdom instead of a Republic.

It is up to the President to negotiate -- not the other way around. Hence, he's the one stonewalling.

If the President can claim foul every time Congress puts up a fuss over spending and debt, then the President basically has no checks.

In my opinion, Obama has had this whole thing upside: it is he that is holding everyone hostage by refusing to negotiate.

This has been a huge MSM propaganda and war of words. I do not want any President deciding the debt and spending. Never.

When the POTUS can pick who he wants to be exempt from the law and then say I will negotiate with anyone (wink wink) he has become exactly what the Constitution was created to prevent - a king, just what Washington worked so hard to avoid/prevent in our beginning.

I hope the Republicans don't cave on this. Keeping the debt limit from being raised may be the only chance we have at cutting spending. Defaulting on our debt is simply a red herring. We have more than enough money to pay the interest on the debt. Just have to cut some of the other discretionary spending and entitlements.

Wonder if Obama and Reid have ever looked in the dictionary to see the definition of "compromise?"

Radio pundits this morning (9/14) seemed to infer the Repubs were willing to cave over the weekend, but Obama then moved the goal posts and wanted all the sequestor cuts back too.

Should be an interesting week. It's like two stupid teenagers in a James Dean movie racing their hot rods towards the cliff. Wel'll see who chickens out first.

Obama and Reid's response or negotiation to a compromise bill put for by RINO Susan Collins and bi-partisan group is refusal to accept spending cuts for sequestration:

From CNN- A key sticking point for Democrats is sequestration. While the Collins' plan give "flexibility" on the spending cuts, Democrats and the White House don't want to agree to anything that allows another round of the spending limits to kick in as they're supposed to in mid-January, senior Democratic sources told CNN's Dana Bash.

I say do not increase the debt limit and let's live with the consequences. At some point, Discover Card has to stop wreckless spending behaviors as they know you can never pay it off.

I wonder if part of the problem with compromise is that so many attorneys are politicians. When I was in licensing, we would have an adage that if we ever wanted a deal to fail we would bring attorneys into the initial talks. Almost without fail, even when financial terms were agreed upon, once the attorneys entered the room, fights would ensue. In most cases it was better for the attorneys to stay at the office rather than attend the meetings.

My statement was directed to paso. However, not sure how the "echo chamber" comment applies. The Tea Party representatives are the only ones wanting to change status quo. As of today, all they(Reid/boehner) can come up with is get a few goodies for each other and punt the fiscal crisis to next year.

The writing is on the wall. The country cannot continue to spend what it does not have. The current system, Dems and Repubs, are not the solution.
