If Lakers win the NBA Championship this year

This will make Phil Jackson the leading coach in all time NBA championships. I look for him to retire after this year or at least after next year. If he does look for the Lakers to go after Coach Scott of New Orleans to be their next coach.

I was not always a Lakers fan due to my extreme love for the Rockets, but when the Rockets are not in it, and when the Suns aren't holding up, then I'm all for the Lakers, and I like to see Phil Jackson get as much as he can.

If he gets another world championship this year, would irritate Celtics (Red Auerbauch fans).

I'm not a Laker fan, and i think Phil is a pompous ***, but as a casual BBall fan, how awesome would it be if he ran off another 3peat in LA? That would have to cement him as the greatest ever.

I hate Phil Jackson. He picks and chooses what team with a superstar he wants to go and coach, when that team wins then starts to sucks again, he retires and waits for the next good team to call him. I would not be surprised if he retires then comes back to coach Lebron a few years from now.

I'm sorry, but that's just stupid.

Phil Jackson is an excellent COACH. He is very skilled at both developing his players and getting the huge egos to work well together. He also knows how to manage a game and a series. I saw that he is something like 60-0 in series where he wins the first game. I don't care who is on the team, that is just an incredible record.

I doubt he retires after this year.

The lakers are set up to run off possibly 3-5 titles in the next 5-7 years.

Kobe is in his prime, Gasol is coming into his prime, Bynum was starting to show potential to dominate, Odom has gas left in the tank- especially as a 3rd/4th option. Arriza, Faramar, Walton and all their Euro's are young.

This team and nucleus looks really solid for as long as Kobe plays at a high level, which I would bet he has at least 3 superstar years left in him and 5-7 decent years total if he picks his spots and plays a more cerebral game like he has shown he can do this year.

Their window of opportunity looks to be open for a loooong time and I can't see Phil passing that up.

Injuries, ego's, defections etc can catch up to them and derail it, but I don't see anything iminent.

I'm going to say the Lakers will win it.

I believe Kobe has another level of playoff basketball. I don't think anyone else can play at the level he can play at.

However, if Lamar Odom keeps playing like Dirk Nowitski (playoff Dirk, not regular season Dirk) then the Celtics or Pistons could pull it out... but I don't think Kobe will allow it.

I hate Phil Jackson. Like said earlier, He IS a pompous *******. He's a douche.

Kobe is a statutory raping, philandering crybaby.

I have never like the Lakers - I dont like Nicholson either, he is a douchebag too.

Kobe wasn't a "statutory" rapist, that's for someone under the legal age of consent, which his accusor was not.

He may well be a rapist, but I tend to think that probably wasn't the case. There was probably a reason why the case wasn't prosecuted.

But if he is anything criminal it's a rapist not a statutory rapist.

Jackson isn't going anywhere with that young team. He's the highest paid coach in the league, he's banging the boss's daughter, and he's got a chance to put Red Auerbach way behind in the rearview mirror.

I really don't think he probably raped her, but I have no ******* idea as I wasn't in that room.

I have a hard time believing somebody would have sex with 2 or 3 random dudes in a span of 24 hours, but Kobe freaking Bryant was the guy she said no to?

that does not compute for me. Maybe he did it, I'm not saying it didn't happen, but I would tend to believe that he did not.

I do find it odd that with only an accusation people can be convinced he did it. It's not like we had testiimony or cross examination, or the chance to examine the facts.

It's he said/she said and I'm not going to convct the guy in my mind without giving him his day in court. At the end of the day I think he probably didn't do it, but not being there or having testimony or the like I have no idea.

Neither do you. But the lack of prosecution of the case is telling imo. And people get tried for rape even without a cooperating witness. It means the rest of their case was ****, and the DA came off like a real douchebag to me. And I used to work for the DA, am a law and order type guy and have a bunch of respect for what they do.

Is someone actually bashing a coach for choosing to coach great players instead of sucky ones?

These are the kind of guys who immediately leave the bar with a 200 pound chick rather than wait a bit for the hot one.

Jackson didn't "choose" Jordan. He was the assistant and moved up. He did choose Shaq in his prime and Kobe on the rise. Who in the world WOULDN'T have done that?

He is a very good coach. His job this year is unreal. You have a pompous crybaby who basically said his entire team was crap before the season. Demands to be traded and bashes the front office. Somehow Phil has gotten the team to rally around that nonsense and led them to the best record in the West.

Kobe is one of the worst players in the world to coach and Phil does it better than anyone.

LA wins that is LA's 4th title in what 9 years. They also made it to another finals and lost. I would think they would have an argument to say they are the best team of the last decade now...Even had one 3-4 year dynasty period.

Jackson is an amazing coach. He should have won his 10th title when LA was going for 4 in a row but I think he gets it this year.

Wow. Just read all the posts. People are actually questioning the coaching genius of Phil Jackson. You do realize that when Phil Jackson took over this team 3 years ago it was one year removed from a losing record and missed playoff appearance under Rudy T (half the year). He lead that team in his first year to the playoffs and almost pulled off a 1st round upset of Suns.

Before the Gasol trade, this team was essentially that same exact team that Jackson took over 3 years ago. And yet Jackson had molded them into a TEAM. The Lakers were battling for the top spot in the West BEFORE the Gasol trade. Phil Jackson has to be given a TON of credit for this.

You can tell a well coached team by the way they play during the game. They don't constantly look over to Phil for instructions. You don't see Phil hopping around the sidelines calling stuff to players like Avery or Doc or Mike Brown or any of these other guys. Pre-game preparation, team fundamentals, practice and a relaxed attitude is what Phil has instiled in this team. It works. Phil Jackson is a coaching genius on so many levels.
