If Kabongo is drafted....

If he declares and gets drafted this year, I'd stop watching college BB altogether. Why? I'm not going to patronize a league that cannot hold onto players who are not ready for the next level. I don't mind losing players to the NBA, but I do mind losing players to the D-league. One and done is an atrocity to the fans. At least make it a two year commitment.

This one thing about Texas Basketball, that we get so many players who come and stay 1 year or maybe 2 and leave to the NBA is what has soured me as a fan. I still want Texas to win and all but I used to hang on every shot during the conference and tournament time. The fact that Rick Barnes has openly stated that his primary goal is to get kids to the NBA instead of winning championships certainly doesn't help. And, add to that the fact that I cannot watch many of the Texas games now that I used to be able to because of the Longhorn Network, it all adds up to losing interest in the team.

Amen brother Ben, shot a goose and killed a hen. Amen to all the above.

Statesman this morning said that starting with Ford and Durant it's become known as the place to run through on the way to the NBA. The writer was not even being sarcastic or belittling. He was writing straight as can be.

If someone took the time to list the players who have r.u.n.n.o.f.t (O'Brother Where Art Thou) to the NBA -- and I mean most of them shouldn't even be on the court in that league, would be an amazing list of could'a'beens for this program.

Actually be interesting to see a complete list, matched with their NBA career and current status.

Inconsistent shooting, suspect defense, poor decision making and a turnover waiting to happen. He's a top prospect all right.

I guess the funny thing is that he truly is that good among true "PGs" in the college game. There's a lot of short shooting guards that play the point, but they're missing the tools that make them a threat to distribute the ball (Brown).

Kabongo has those tools. He's just very inconsistent and needs at least another year to hone in on what made him so special in HS. He needs to figure out his footwork on drives and distribution, but other than that, I'd easily "waste" a pick on him to get him as a backup PG and use my NBA-level developmental program to get him game-ready.

did you guys see that one play against Cincinatti, when Kabongo had a breakaway and did NOT run away from the defenders? I thought the upside with him was all about his quickness? The d literally kept up with him. no separation.

If he is really such a good, pure PG, then why did we make the run, before sputtering, against Cincy with Brown running the point.

Yea, I know Brown made that wild pass when we were tied, but how many bad passes did Kabongo make before that.

He is short. he will be a liability on defense and when he is playing for the Toros if drafted, their opponent will run their offense through who ever is guarding him.

The NBA sucks more than OU.

I think you're running under the assumption that Kabongo will not improve in the pros. Hell, even Avery Bradley has had some good games this year, and he looked like **** against every decent team we played.

The NBA is a different monster than the college game. When you have unlimited resources to go along with unlimited practice time and your own D-League (where guys are still paid, mind you), strange things can happen. Kabongo fits the mold of a guy who could be a decent pro PG. It'd be stupid not to recognize that.

I really don't mean to denigrate Kabongo and I do hope he returns (for his sake) and improves dramatically by next season. I must say though, that I have seen many PGs in the NCAA tournament that are far better at their position than Kabongo. If he does stay and doesn't improve noticeably, he just may find his playing time next season diminished significantly by Javan Felix.

Felix coming in and I think Gibbs shows potential too. Has a nice shooting touch from the field and at the foul line.

I can't believe we are even discussing Kabongo going pro, but nothing about the NBA drafting players who aren't ready surprises me any more. I guess they need bodies for all those D League teams.

College basketball needs to go to the same rules as college baseball for draft eligibility to restore some sanity to the game.

One and done is ok since it is part of the game but it would be nice to at least win an NCAA Championship like Syracuse did with Carmelo Anthony.

Hell, I would be OK with a few Big 12 Championships. We still have not won one of the tournaments and I can't remember our last outright Big 12 Championship.

Joseph did more than Bradley, I thought. Still boggles my mind how Bradley went #11 overall. Kabongo improved tremendously over the course of the year. There are not many true PGs better in the tourney and fewer even less with the physical tangibles and upside Kabongo possesses. I could easily see him as a 2nd rd pick. I could also see him not getting drafted.

Of course he is not ready. But that doesn't matter to the NBA, and sometimes doesn't matter to the player, and oftentimes rightfully so for a couple of reasons. I think he and JCB will both be back. If so, we could be really good.

Amen Northern NJHorn. Hell I would like to see a 3 year commitment in all college sports.

I'm gonna ask again, did any of you guys see the fast break from Kabongo, in our last game, where he did not separate himself one bit from the opponent? They swatted/blocked his layup before he got off the ground, and that could have been the difference maker in the game.

I want to say that we were within 3 or 5 points of the lead, making our strong comeback. We were dying for some offense, and the "legendary" speed of Kabongo didn't help us one bit. I'm not even sure if we maintained ball posession, the ball might have been blocked off of his foot.
