If Bohls is right about Coach Elliott

See No. 4 in the link. If he is right we need to pay Coach Elliott whatever it takes to keep him here. We already lost one great volleyball coach to USC probably due to money. If UCLA does go for him we need to not only match it but beat it. We lost some great seniors this year but we have great talent coming back plus some super recruits and should be making NC runs for the next several years. Let's not lose this great coach.

I agree they all deserve a raise & TX has enough money to give them all one. So lets make it happen

I can't really comment about salary because I have no idea what most VB coaches make, but I can say that Texas is a much better gig than the UCLA position. And there are also factors other than salary to consider. Having lived and worked in LA in the past I can tell you that cost of living, and in particular housing, is dramatically more than in Austin. Even with the recent drop in prices in CA you can live in a mansion in Austin for about the same as you would pay for a modest 3BR in a mediocre suburb of LA....you would probably need to earn three times as much to make up for the difference in housing cost alone. Of course Elliott is from CA so who knows, but as much as I like certain things about Southern CA, you can't really compare the quality of life between the two. Overall and in particular for a family Austin wins hands down.

I picked up some real estate guides while in L.A. for the BCSCG. I knew the housing prices were high, but good Lord.

We stayed a few miles from UCLA in Santa Monica, and there was nothing decent anywhere close to that part of L.A. for less than $1,500,000-$2,000,000. It only went up from there.

Double the man's salary as a starting point. Triple it if that's what it takes.

I have a friend who went to UCLA (originally from San Diego), and he has property on Lake LBJ. He's going to retire there. Although he could afford it, he says there's no way he could justify paying for a place in Southern California.

It depends on what you want. Let's compare Houston to LA.

I tell my friends that LA is Houston with (a) mountains, (b) nice beaches, (c) no humidity, and (d) no mosquitos. I've hiked Mt. Baldy on a Saturday morning and then was on a beach in Santa Monica that afternoon.

Yeah, Austin is better than Houston but if you like the outdoors (and can afford to live in CA), it's a no-brainer (for me). I've owned a McMansion in Texas and realized that no family needs 3,500 square feet for anything (but again that's just me).

Most of my close friends from UT undergrad live in SF and SD (just weird how that panned out-we went to grad schools all over the country and then all ended up in California)

Different strokes for different folks.
