IE problem

For some reason Internet Explorer stopped working on my XP machine today. It runs but it appears like I'm not connected to the internet. My DSL connection is fine and I have no problem surfing with Mozilla Firefox but not with IE. IE justs shows no page found for every web site. I can't even get to my firewall page. I've tried rebooting my PC and router, but same problem.

Any idea why this could be happening? And I know some people prefer Firefox, but I don't like it when something is broken so I want to fix it.

Thanks.

I'd look under

Tools>Internet Options>Connections

Sometimes those settings get changed.

that was it. Somehow a proxy server IP and port had been entered. Removed them and it worked.

Who needs to call support when you have Hornfans.

It was pointed to port 6502 on my local PC, so I don't know what could have happened. My setup is pretty secure with a router and firewall software. Still I don't know what happened there.

Firewalls and Router security won't stop spyware at all. Spyware gets installed by you (inadvertently of course) so the firewall never has a shot.

Port 6502 really sounds like a random setting. I would be concerned. If you have spyware scanning software - you should run it.

Since you've already got Firefox, you might as well set all of your IE security settings to high and stop using it. Voila - no more spyware.
