Idiot can't work her VCR...

I realize I'm an idiot, however, I can't get my VCR to record anything. In order to work the DVD/VCR player to work, the tv must be set to the AUX channel. I can watch DVD's/tapes just fine but when I attempt record something (even if I set the VCR to the appropriate channel), it just records the blue AUX screen. What am I doing wrong?

Sounds like you may have the VCR player set on the AUX channel. Might try pressing the TV/VCR button on the TV and adjusting channel on VCR.

Like Woland said I bet you have your cable hooked up to your TV and not through your VCR/DVD to your TV. Either you need to run your coaxial cable through your VCR/DVD to the TV (not recomended) or hook up another cable from the RCA output on the back of your TV to an RCA input on the VCR/DVD.
