IBM migrating to Macs

Well, at least it's looking more likely. At the risk of perpetuating my reputation as a Mac promoter, check out the results of a pilot program at IBM to replace Thinkpads with MacBook Pros: 86% of pilot program users keep their Macs, discard their Thinkpads

As a PC w/XP user at work and a Mac w/Fusion+XP user at home I completely agree with the majority of pilot program users. The momentum is clearly swinging away from Windows on many fronts. Also, for the hardcore PC/Windows HornFans: don't worry, you are still among a sizable group (14%) who still prefer their PCs so there's still a chance that Macs won't completely take over and you can remain a vocal minority like us Mac users are today.

I saw that article today. Very interesting, and the absolute irony of IBM doing this, of all companies. IBM used to be synonymous with the Windows PC, which was said to be "IBM-compatible."

My company, like most, is a Windows operation. But I use a MacBook Pro with VMware Fusion running XP Pro. I get a lot of inquiries at meetings when we all pull out our laptops. I am hearing from quite a few long-time Windows users that they are looking at a Mac for their home machine -- they are just fed up with the Windows debacle and are ready to explore.

I work for IBM and I will believe it when I see it. 4 years ago there was a statement that all IBM employee desktops would run Linux within 3 years, but that never came to fruition.

I use a mac at work. It sits right next to my Dell. The only reason I use the dell for the most part is that it is faster, and my primary development software (Eclipse) runs much better on it than my 2 1/2 year old PowerBook (although the PowerBook is still no slouch.)

When I want to get something done that doesn't involve eclipse, or when I need a command line, its back to the mac. Windows is just annoying, and this new Dell doesn't help.

If I could've bought a new MacBook, I would have done that and switched between Windows and the Mac OS when I needed.
