...infrared capability. My old SmartPhone, despite its faults, had IR. I downloaded a program that allowed me to use my phone to control my TV.

If the iphone had an IR transmitter, you know people would make some awesome apps. Using my iphone to open my car, open the garage door and control my AV stuff would be awesome.

And I guess you can use IR for printing if you had a printer with an IR receiver.

It's not quite the same but with 'remote' you can control iTunes on a mac or an appleTV if you have one of those. Not great but it comes in handy at parties.

That site says you need: "An IRTrans LAN module, that is an infrared transmitter/receiver which is connected by cable to your network."
