They will be coming to the Islander Splash ( a cross country race) this Friday in Corpus Christi. Since the race is only 18 miles from where I live I am going to be there. I am not going to miss this one like I did when the soccer team was in Corpus Christi and I thought they were staying till the end of a week and missed them. I will be there cheering the Horns to victory. The only thing that might do me in this time is bad weather cancellation which may be happening on Friday but otherwise I will be there.

GO HORNS GO! FASTER FASTER! WIN!

The weather was good and so were our ladies as they won the meet. Good job Horns! I got to cheer them on. They had more parents here than the last time they were here so I didn't bother the ladies since they didn't. It would have been nice to have got autographs but that is ok as long as they keep doing good and bring us the State Farm Lone Star Showdown point again this year.

Yes, great result for the Horns, in particular as they beat a good Rice squad. I don't know how long its been since we finished ahead of Rice in a meet but my guess is quite a while; the Owls actually finished 2nd in the Central Region last year and qualified for the NCAA championships. I was hopeful about this year's team following end-of season results in '08. After finishing near the bottom of the conference for a couple of seasons, the squad placed 4th in the Big 12 and 5th in the Central Region last year...and most of their top performers are back. Keep it up, Horns!

I noticed after I made the previous post that Rice was ranked 20th in the nation at the point we beat them at the Islander Splash (they dropped to 27th in the most recent poll). Pretty impressive for a squad that finished 11th in the conference two seasons ago, and 4th last year, to beat a top 20 squad. Keep it up, Horns!

The Horns competed in the big pre-national meet this weekend which is on the same course that the NCAA championships will be held in 5 weeks time. There were 75 squads competing including 7 of the 10 and 19 of the top 30 teams in the country. The meet was split into two races and the Horns finished 24th overall, ahead of a lot of ranked squads (including #12 Baylor, who finished 42nd). Great job, Horns!
