I have a 6 foot privacy fence and i'm thinking about staining it. Should I spray or brush? Are some brands better than others?

take about 4 vitamins and drink a few beers then sneak out at night and "stain" the fence...

Are you two cats? Off topic but my friends cat claimed his roomates car the other night. It was in the garage and went in the car which had the windows open. It sprayed in the passenger seat. I would be going to the vet the next day.

Can you take some before and after pics and let us know what you used? Thanks in advance.

i'm just proud of you for staining it. i can't believe how many people i see put up fences that costs thousands of dollars only to look like complete *** in a year because they didn't stain it. drives me crazy.

they are doing a lot of teardowns over in lakewood here in dallas. and you will see new houses that cost almost a million dollars with brand new fences that are unstained. fast forward a year and they all look like **** on these badass houses.

If you spray, where a mask. I did this a few years ago on a windy day, and got covered in the stuff. Breathed in way too much waterproof stain, it clogged by sinuses and resulted in an emergency room visit due to severe vertigo. Not my brightest moment.

I used Behr WeatherProofing #500 Natural. I used a brush and did our entire fence (fortunately our back fence parallel to our house is a stone wall) and our deck. The next time I do it I am going to use a brush for the deck and a sprayer for the fence. The fence just soaked it up big time like a sponge since it was rough cedar and the deck was smooth cedar. I spent probably 8 hours on the deck and 20 hours on the fence....

Behr semi-transparaent stain ... and SPRAY.

Invest in a good airless sprayer - son't buy one of those cheap *** $50 ones. Lowes and HD have an excellent one for $200.

if your fence already looks ****** becaus they sealed it poorly, is there a way to stain it and have it look good?

could you use that tripping stuff to get the gray away or whatever?

was going to stain my 6 year old split rail fence to hid the gray and give it new life. After pressure washing it the gray is gone and we're done. Now we think staining is over-doing it.

Brushing is better if you are a glutton for punishment and can avoid laps. Most people are not up for brushing, but it certainly is better for the wood in my experience. Bristles lift the wood grain, and the wood will suck the stain out of the brush until saturation. A well brushed fence should hold up longer than a sprayed one. It's just such a pain in the *** to do.
