I want to plan a fishing trip

For an upcoming weekend. Maybe leave Friday afternoon and come back Monday morning. I saw a show on the outdoor life network about fishing the Florida Keys and it looked pretty cool.

We have passports so we can roll international. Is fishing in Costa Rica or Belize good? Where can we go for good fishing, pretty beaches, and preferably, somewhere with a nice hotel?

Is now even a good season to go anyplace?

It really depends on your experience level, what you want to catch, how you like to fish, and your budget. but to answer your questions....

I stayed near Playa Hermosa in Costa Rica and went bay fishing a few days with a guide. We mainly caught Jacks and the occasional Rooster Tail, which are incredible fighters. I prefer bay fishing over off-shore. But if you're interested in off-shore, Costa Rica would be a good place to look into as well. Another popular place for off-shore fishing is Cabo San Lucas.

Similar to the Keys, in Belize you have access to the shallow coastal flats for bone fishing and is a popular destination for fly fisherman. Turneffe Flats has a nice resort and activities outside of fishing. Xcalak is another place just north of Belize that suppose to be amazing bone fishing. Belize/Xcalak is at the top of my list for my next fishing destination. Summer is the best time to go.

this time of year i typically stick around Central Tx, fishing the Guadalupe and san marcos, then in early spring hitting the llano, pedernales, etc for the white bass.

the bite is on in Costa Rica right now. I just got back on Saturday - we caught 17 sails and 4 Dorado in two days. We stayed in Los Suenos - you have a choice of a very nice Marriott resort, private condos or private homes. I have never been to the beach there, but one does exst there and in Jaco, just up the road. Finding a boat will be your biggest challenge as they tend to book out a couple of months in advance this time of year.

This is a world class local. There is also a very highly recommeded resort called Villa Calletas about 5 km from Los Suenos. You could stay there and fish out of Los Suenos.

another nice thing about the CR is that offshore is usually very calm this time of year.
