'I want the crab count, and I want it NOW!'

I know almost nothing about saltwater fishing and even less about commercial fishing. However, I do know it's illegal to tamper with other people's pots. I guess it's one of those things where the guys know each other and therefore understand it's an inside joke. However, I find it interesting they openly commit offenses. Side note, I fished Lake Calcasieu and the guide stole live shrimp from a shrimp pot. Highly illegal, but effective. We tipped him well.

Also, how is it not illegal to dump a truck into the ocean?

Besides all those questions, it was entertaining. Although I thought the pipe trick was very cool, too. The 784,000 pounds of red crab are an amazing amount.

i believe that i heard each crew memeber made 90k. and i think the redcrab season was 6 months of work. 90k for 6 months of work in those hazardous conditions seems an awful small reward.

I don't know. 90k for six months of work is probably well worth it for guys that are most likely limited in their career options.

Work you butt off for six months and spend the other six months doing whatever you want. Seems like they enjoy that lifestyle.

Lobster fishing is done the same way only with smaller pots and boats. I think one of the main reasons they tie all the pots together is because of the depth. Those guys guys were in much deeper water.

In regards to the brown king crab and the $90K per deckhand, I believe they said they fished the brown king crab for 97 days.....3 months. The brown crab are smaller and have a harder exoskeloton. They do not fetch as much per lb as the red king crab.

Unbelievable! It does look dangerous though with that long line setup, kinda like the setup with the sword boats on perfect storm.

Oh yeah, the truck was awesome. You could see Capt Phil's mood change when he pulled that thing up. It kinda made his day. He had been striking out for that whole prospect string, then bam he pulls up a truck.

Entertaining but I see the fonz approaching the ramp

HAHA....

btw, when is the replay for the new show? I missed it.

The fonz approaching the ramp will probably be someone dying or at the very least going overboard. I thought I heard it advertised by the "Dirty Jobs" guy saying something like the next season would have new adventures and someone wouldn't come back with the ship...

Interesting how we get hooked on death or the possibility of death. As irresponsible as I think it is to advertise death, the Discovery Channel is doing a good job of milking the cow for every last drop.

I notice the Maverick has been conspicuously absent this season. I know Blake on Captained during King Season and not Opie last year. Maybe they leased out their quota? Or maybe they'd had enough of the camera guys.

or maybe they had bad seasons and superstition told them to ditch the disco guys. i recall blake closing shop a few thousand pounds early during his stint as cptn, maybe they think the filming is causing their fishing to suffer, as some guys would rather chat up the camera or do crazy **** like pop off a couple of rounds of a machine gun into the water (see andy hilstrand) than count the crab.

yeah i know, but my point is maybe he and his crew were too busy hamming it up to the camera to count correctly, and it bit them and the boat owner in the pocketbook.
