I want a new cell phone

I will be moving this august, and I thought I should commemorate the move by changing cell phones. I hear that Verizon is the best service. Opinions?

Also, what is a good flip-top phone? I want to spend under 100 bucks (which seems pretty easy to do if you sign up for a plan).

**Most importantly. I will only be 1 year into my current 2-year plan. I heard they can really only keep you for one year. Is this true? Any advice would be much appreciated from people who have been through this situation before. Thanks.

It depends on your contract. You can easily drop the contract, but you have to pay a fee.

If you re-up the contract, you may be able to get a good deal on a new phone. The gf's phone broke recently. Because she had the same line on the same phone for 18 months, Sprint gave her a $150 rebate on a new phone for us re-upping our plan.

So, yes, you can drop your contract, but probably not without paying a fee of $150-$250. There is a decent chance that you can get a great deal on a new phone by re-upping your contract.

My previous service provider was Sprint & I had the Sanyo 8200 phone. That was the best cell phone I've owned and while I had the occasional dropped call, the sound quality overall was great.

My current service provider is Verizon & the phone is the Motorola v710. While I rarely drop calls, the sound quality is not good and there will often be spans of time (several seconds) where I get no sound from the phone even though the call wasn't "dropped". I then have to ask the other party to repeat what they just said.

Location can play a big factor in these things (I'm in central Houston) but my experience with Verizon has not been good so far (3 months).

i'm with sprint pcs. been with sprint pcs for 5 years. just bought a motorola v60v flip. great phone. great reception. only problem is its a bare bones phone for people who don't need a lot of extra crap ie it has no vision. $250 on sprintpcs.com or thru telesales (not sold in sprint stores) & i am waiting for my $150 rebate check. not a bad deal at all.
