several parameters:

my first car was an m3
my second car was a lexus gs300
i now drive my mom's acura 3.5rl since she decided that the lexus was nicer
i want to pay for this one, finally. i will have student loans.
as a result of above, i will need a car that puts me in the 30k/yr millionaire status
i hate bmws now, and i would prefer something in the 20-30k range as i am paying for myself

go.

350Z - love mine!

i personally would go with a used car given your price range. go to carmax or the dealer and look at lease returns (which are usually in good shape). do that and you can afford a lexus/acura, which you are accustomed to driving.

yeah. that is probably what i may end up doing.

anyone have experience with 01+ acura cl's? that one looks intriguing.

Wife has an A4. Seems like there's always something going wrong with it.

You are going to have a shitload of bills from med school, you sure you want to have a 25,000 car loan you have to take care of as well?

I have a TSX-- Great car and they run loaded with everything but the GPS @26K.

Also, I've been hearing on the radio that "apple sports imports" is selling used jag x-types for less than 20.

If I were you, I'd look at getting a Toyota Prius (sp? doesn't look right.) lots of rich poeple drive those b/c they care about the environment and becuase they're novel.

I would go for the new Acura TSX as Smufette suggested or look for a slightly used TL or TL-S. Can't go wrong with them. We have an '03 TL-S and love it. No problems, fun to drive, nice looking.

Me too. I am going to get an M3 on Monday or Tuesday and I cannot wait. I had purchased my wife a new Tahoe for Christmas, and the thing has been in the shop 3 times in 5 months with multiple issues each time. It has 5k miles on. I am getting rid of that and getting an M3 for me! She is cool. Good luck with your new car too. New cars are a heck of a lot of fun.

Cancer man - i had an A4 too. I cannot even explain the extent of the problems I had with that car over four years. I am so glad to be rid of it. Let's just leave it at this: at 50,000 miles, my timing belt snapped halfway between houston and austin as i drove 70mph, thus breaking all the valves and costing a mean $3000 to fix.
I had a 98, and I know several people who had 98 and 99 A4s with many similar complaints to mine. They may have changed things by now, but for me it's not worth the risk, especially since they cost a freakin arm and a leg for any kind of repair. and it's not like a good deal when you buy the car in the first place - my A4 cost a significant amount more than my TSX and had far less features.
I love the TSX - it is great to drive, reliable, not too bad on the gas guzzling, very comfortable, and you seriously get every luxury feature you could ever want (besides the gps navi) for around $26k. the navi system is pretty sweet but it's an extra couple k.

so i looked at a few, and if you see my thread on cactus, which may be moved at anytime, i have really become enamored with the jetta. the cl was a little bit bigger than i had hoped and driving it reinforced that feeling. as much as i enjoyed my m3 and you will texas007, i couldn't bring myself to get another bmw. i would like a hybrid, but i can't bring myself to spend that much on a civic.
