I thought we were going to be selective?

All the info coming out was we were going to be selective and go for the more sure things.....

Well after the first junior day it seems like we are offering an awful lot of projects.

I don't follow recruiting like I once did, but the evaluations I have seen regarding many of these plays sound like we are offering a lot of borderline 3 star guys?

Trust in mack and all that, but just surprised, I thought the early offers/committs would have been more restricted. It is starting to look more like we are making the same number of offers, but the lower ranked guys are the only ones accepting

and yes, I know we have gotten some great commits, just a little surprised at how it is going.

I am also surprised but I think the coaches liked what they saw at the junior day evaluations. Besides ability I am sure character, grades and other important issues came into consideration.

By project I would go with the idea that the recruiting writeups all seem to start with a "you might be wondering why him" kind of theme.

Or they will be a "good stop gap or depth on the team"

I agree with you Renegade... and think that tag might apply to our lattest commit on the d-line! I think the others qualify as good gets and Hassan Ridgeway goes to the depth issue and a need position... like we all know, recruiting is like a beauty pageant! I do like Oscar Giles on him though...

I think Hassan and DLT are depth fillers with potential for upside development. Two positions of need with potential for late blooming from raw talent during their senior year.

Brewer is a lock 4 star with potential 5 star skills.
Norman has a HUGE upside with 4 star skill level right now...I am really excited about him.
Riser is base 4 star with 5 star potential at Guard. A little development and he will be a nice catch.
Thomas is a good athlete...should be interesting to see where he ends up.

I think the slow plays and hesitation by some blue chippers will subside if we do well next season and they like what they see on the field as far as schemes go. JD2 should bring in a few more good catches.

Yea, if he's not on the AAS Feb 55 or high on Burton or Luicci's list I can't believe he has an offer already.

Jeez, start paying assistant coaches a half million a year, they get the idea they can look a game film, measurables, do interviews and make their own evaluation instead of trusting journalists and internet jock sniffers.

If you were a legit 5 star junior (and how many are there anyway), I mean, what's the big fat hurry?

Why wouldn't you want to wait and see how things develop, especially given the lousy season we are coming off of?

well sorry I was just asking a question. The info leading up was just talking about how we were gonna be more selective and hold off on all the early offers. That leads to thinking we were gonna concentrate on guys who we fealt good about and were more certain on their evaluations. I am not bagging on any 4 stars, they are most of the players we get normally. Just that I was surprised with some of the early offers to guys who sound like they will be 3 star players. I definitely trust the coaches. No need to get your panites in a wad.

Alabama might be on to something there. One word: Schwarzenegger

Per the above link, Oklahoma State has done an excellent job finding hidden (3-star or otherwise unknown) gems and turning them into Big 12 standouts.

I'm glad we aren't just chasing guys that are tops of all the lists. Or guys who's teams win titles. There are many kids that play for okay teams that have potential for greatness. I don't give a damn if a DE's team won the state championship. I care how he played. If you see something in a kid and think he will be something, there's nothing wrong with that. People have success with 3-stars because they dig deeper and see something in the kid. The amount a kid grows and develops in a few years is tremendous at that age. You can't make a final assessment and always be correct about a kid who's only a Junior in HS and only grade his performance before that date.

Here's the bama guy.
Since he was going to a jr college Arizona he was on our turf. We should have been after him.

If you get 2 good years out of somebody, that's no different than losing a great player to an early draft.

I agree with opening up possibilities to special JUCO players as well. At least a few. With the depth of talent we have, many times players only see 2 full years of starting. If the guy's talent and skill make him ready to come right in and start over what we have, why not get the best player?

Without knowing anything about the Arizona/Australian, his JC credentials make him academically suspect for UT. Look at the schools recruiting him.
