I think my dog may be psychic

Just as background, my dog hates mailmen of any kind - U.S. Postal, UPS, whatever. (He also hates anyone in any kind of uniform, even if it's just a matching shirt and cap - the exception being pizza drivers.)

So he's sitting in the hallway near the front door and I'm in the office, and all of a sudden I hear him give off that "something's up" woof. And he gets up and starts indicating that there's some intruder or something at the door.

So I look out my window, and sure enough, there's a UPS truck. I didn't receive a package, no one came to my door, no one even passed BY my door. But somehow my dog is able to sense through a closed front door with no window that there is a postal truck parked about 50 feet away. And it's not that he just heard a vehicle pull up, because there's vehicles parked in front of my house, and they're pulling in and out all the time. But a UPS truck double parked near my apartment, that sets off his radar.

Every time I think I have this dog figured out...

Since it's been hot, we bought a small kiddie pool and put it in the backyard for the dogs to lay in if they get hot. The puppy thought it was great and jumped right in. The big dog just wanted to drink it.

So we dumped it out today and refilled it. We'd noticed that the dogs hadn't been getting in the last few days since we bought it. Thought that was weird since the pup was so into it when it first came home.

So, once it gets refilled, LHF68 puts the pup in. She splashes a round for a minute, then out of no where the big dog comes at her and knocks her out of the pool....

apparently the big dog has decided the pool is NOT to be played in-- it is only for drinking.

They have an automatically re-filling water bowl that's always fresh, but the damned dog wants to drink the funky, hot dirty water from the pool.

I just don't get the damned dogs.

Hehe he did it again today. And the hearing thing is obviously true, but I always am impressed by how he can distinguish between different types of cars. For example, I'm told that he can tell when it's my car pulling up as opposed to another one.

My dogs would howl for at least 10 minutes before I could finally hear the siren that would inevitably be coming down Parmer.

My dogs don't give a **** about sirens.

I think my dogs are just stupid

Yeah, I think dogs can distinguish cars - my roommate says my dog starts whining and barking right when I pull into the covered parking area two floors below my apt. I drive an Explorer, but there are other SUVs and trucks in my complex, so it's not like he gets excited for all SUVs/trucks - just mine. So he can distinguish the sound of my car versus other cars. Crazy.

it's the whole conditioning thing pavlov did with the dogs. Hear a bell, the food comes shortly after. Maybe after all this time, he hears the distinct sound of your car and moments later you walk in.

I had a wonderful dog named Snoopy who I got in kindergarden and who made it through my junior year of college. He was 100% correct in 15 years of forcasting storms even when the weatherman said there was a 0% chance of rain.

If Snoopy hid behind the couch trembling and would not come out for any reason, you could guarantee that we would have a violent thunderstorm within 2-3 hours, even if the skys were bright and sunny at the time. I mean this dog never, ever missed. It was downright uncanny.

my lab has a featherphobia-- sucks to to have her go retrieve a duck and spit it out cause she doesn't like feathers in her mouth
