I saw a car wreck last night

I am basically in shock at this point witnessing a horrible wreck about 5 feet in front of me. The impala is hit so hard that it skids onto the traffic stopped and heading west on Parmer ln. It hit a SUV but not that hard. I stop to check everyone is ok along with the cop. I stick around and leave everyone my information as a witness until the cop says its ok for me to leave.

I am pretty sure that insurance is going to blame the Impala in this case as he “ran” the red light. I think the cop could have avoided this situation by taking the dedicated right turn then turning back up Lamar the wrong way. If he does this he doesn’t put anyone in danger. Cops continue to show me poor judgment and hope they are found at fault for this accident. The chain of events starts with the cop, the impala could have turn right on Lamar as well as I. The cop also could have turn right on Lamar then come back up. He has his light on, in this case he may have been the one to get hit. The only thing that I am sure about is cops continue to show me bad judgment.

What was the hurry, why did he need to push people out of the way? He stayed at the scene so he wasn’t in that much of a hurry. I hate when I see a car chase on TV with cops perusing at high rates of speed. This just puts innocent people in danger. The situation could have been avoided and this cop knows its essentially his fault when something bad happens, just like what I saw last night.

Ok let me simplify the chain of events. I stopped behind a car waiting for a red light. A cop pulls up behind me with lights on and honks for us to get out of the way. The only way we can go is straight. Car in front of me crosses lanes and gets T-boned by truck going 50 mph.

who's fault is this, dude was stopped but cop made us go forwards.

Wow, I often wonder what they want us to do when stopped at a light, and they come up with lights and sirens blazing. I'm not moving out of the way by running a light.
I wonder what the law is on this point.

Why was the truck going 50 mph through an intersection that had a police car with sirens blazing pulling up to it?

The truck had a green light and was on the far right lane. All other traffic was stopped and his lane was open. I am pretty sure that this truck could not see that there was a cop behind us since he was traveling another direction. The car that got hit would not have gotten hit if not for the police behind us.

The chain of events started with the cop, he would have not accelerated across the lanes if not for the cop.

I think I am going to adopt the above policy (accuratehorn) for cops, if I am at a red and cop is behind me and I have nowhere to go except forward I stay where I am until the light is green. If I am going to be at fault for a accident if I go forward then I shouldn't go forward right?

Definitely the Impala's fault for not maintaining a lookout or yielding to traffic.

We are supposed to move to the right, etc. if sirens are behind us, but we don't have any right to hit a car that is already in the right lane just because there are sirens.

I certainly sympathize, but drivers need to be able to keep their wits about them in these frantic situations (like missing an exit ramp or debris on the road). If a cop is behind you, don't just crash into the intersection just to get out of the way.

It seemed that all the cars were stopped in the intersection. There was one lane open on the far intersection where the truck came through on his green light. I may go forward with extreme caution or better yet I can take a right then come find a place to turn around, this is probably the safest bet.

I still don't see how a driver couldn't see a cop on an intersecting street that is almost right at the traffic light.

But pretty much any time an emergency vehicle with sirens wailing, most people seem to wait until the last possible minute to slow down or move over to make 100% sure they have to. Don't want to risk the chance of a tragedy where you waste a few seconds of time and then it turned out unneccessary.

im confused as to how this was the officer's fault based on your logic. that would be just like if i drove my wife crazy (for whatever reason) and she just decided to shoot me and then blamed me for it.

that impala should have used more caution when deciding to enter a live intersection. do you know why the officer had to get through the intersection/or traffic?

how far did the Impala travel before it was hit? It sounds like the driver may have not taken a safe right going with traffic and instead traveled across that lane to take a risky left (or go straight). Too many variables to make that move and a right with U-turn seems to be the obvious move.
Clearly, nobody - including any judge or jury - would fault a driver for using reasonable precaution and not just reacting mindlessly.

the car should always turn right and be sure to look both ways before doing so. regardless of it inconveniencing you, make a right hand turn (or left if it is one way) but always YIELD to traffic.
