my mom gave me my xmas gift early since she came up for thanksgiving. anyways, anybody have one of these. im thinking about taking it back and using the $ for a new cell phone. just seems overkill for as little vacuuming as i do

I had one. took it back. it does work great, however, if you have alot of furniture, you have to keep moving it. If you don't vaccumm that much, you should exchange it. They are very expensive. (or at least when they first cam out with it)

BTW - if you need a new cell phone, check to see if your cell company gives you credit for a new one. I'm with Sprint and I have $150 credit because 1) i've been with them a while, 2) i pay on time.

I bought the Roomba Discovery a couple of weeks ago thru Amazon (thanks to free shipping, no tax, and a $25 discount code I found on the web it was just $224 total, about $50 cheaper than the $249 + tax at a retailer).

Since it arrived, I've probably vacuumed 10 times... you see the damn thing sitting there, and you have to put it to work.

I was going to use it as a maintenance vacuum... clean the place real good with a more powerful upright, then use Roomba for unattended touch-ups... but I'm so lazy, I let it tackle my incredibly dirty house without the pre-cleaning.

It did a better than expected job, working its little *** off.

You will have to empty the dust bin frequently and the suction is nowhere near that of a decent beater-bar upright (on bare floors, it actually knocks dust bunnies around as much as sucks them up), but it's perfect for small spaces. It will eventually pick up just about eveything.

It's ideal if you're an apartment or dorm room dweller. Just pick up the big crap, move your shoes to the closet, hit "power" and "clean", and let her rip.

Meanwhile, you can read a book, take a shower, do 3:16 stuff or watch TV while your floors are being cleaned.

Don't be surprised if you feel a little guilty.

The coolest thing... when it's done, it finds its recharge station and backs its *** up into it.

And ptown, perhaps your Mom is trying to send you a message... keep the vacuum.
