i-phone text display

One of the bigger concerns with the i-phone is when receiving a text message the message is displayed on your phone. Last night while watching TV one of the characters received a text and instead of displaying the text message it read "received text from xxxx"

Does anyone know how to change the settings to not display the actual text?

the only way i know how to do it is to use Passcode Lock.

go to Settings, General, Passcode Lock. enter code, then you can turn "Show SMS Preview" OFF. this will make it show who sent the txt, not the actual message. this does, however, mean you have to enter a code when your phone locks. i set mine to 4 hrs, so in the event i don't touch my phone for 4 hrs, i'll have to enter the code. otherwise, i use it more than that so i shouldn't have to enter it that much
