I own the Santa Rita No. 1?

I just found some cool family history.

I’ve always known that one of my Great-Great Grandfathers on my Dad’s side was a German mercenary soldier for Maximilian down in Mexico. When the locals revolted against the Spanish, my GGG came to Texas with the regimental barber and learned to cut hair in Corpus. I have always enjoyed telling the story that I was a fifth generation German wetback Texan.

What I didn’t know, was that GGG promptly moved to Austin and had a barber shop on what is now Congress Ave for years. And he owned a house that was on the site that is now the Santa Rita No. 1 on campus!

That’s a kick *** UT connection to the family! Which I will thoroughly enjoy sharing with the aggys in the family.

I think I’d best tailgate at the well when I make it back to Austin…if I can take hearing the recording over and over.

That's some pretty cool ****.

No kidding, that is some cool ****.

I know what you mean about the recording, though. I think I've memorized it through osmosis at tailgates.
