I need some guy trip activities

Ok, me and some friends have a little annual trip. I need some help coming up with this year's trip. Here are the parameters:

1. Must be in North or Central America (Carribbean included)
2. Must be centered around something we've never experienced or someplace we've never been (or both).
3. Trip usually starts on a Wednesday and ends on a Monday.
4. Budget: approx $1500 each including airfare
5. trip can take place anytime of year, but usually happens summer/early fall
6. no skydiving
7. not interested in golf or gambling trips

Please do not include Moab, Boundary Waters, canoeing, mountain biking as those were our first 2 trips.

Thanks in advance.

Costa Rica.

Zip line at Monteverde. The longest zip line is 1/2 mile long. Costs about $44 for a 3 hr trip.

White water rafting. I'm not sure if that's the same thing as your request for no canoeing. These are class III and IV rapids. I haven't done this in Costa Rica but I'm guessing that there's a river near Monteverde (or within an hour or so drive) that can hook you up.

A quick google search found the following two day trip with an overnight stay in a lodge for $259

Not sure where your origination point is but I did a quick inquiry on American and I got a fare for $650 direct from DFW to San Jose.

If you're not interested in white water rafting, there's good surfing on the pacific coast.

OK. Let me clear a couple things up.
1. We are all located in different cities (Austin, Dallas, New York).
2. We only do the Americas for now (mostly a wife thing). As the trip becomes more of a tradition, we'll begin to expand. For now, we want to keep it simple and affordable. Seeing that there's only 3 of us, once we get through one rotation of trips (ie, after our next trip), we'll begin to think bigger.

Thanks for the recs. I could use some more.

It's hard to plan for you when you don't have any main objectives listed. (I.E. adventure, outdoors/indoors, relaxation, sight seeing, age range of participants, etc.)

These would be my ideal trips under that criteria:

-Yankees/Red Sox game. I'd prefer to see it in Yankee stadium before they tear it down. (If you haven't been) Always stuff to do in NY. Fenway Park is impressive as well and Boston has a lot of history.

-Water skiing at Lake Tahoe. You are 20 miles from Reno if you want to go and a short trip to SFO to kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

-Alaskan Cruise departing out of Seattle. I'm not a big fan of cruises, but not many can say that they've been to Alaska.

-Hiking/camping Yellowstone Park.

-Niagra Falls and road trip into Canada. I'd hit Toronto to see the hockey hall of fame.

-Anything beach related/bar hopping in the Carribean

It doesn't have to be a macho adventure trip, but that seems to be where we've headed so far. We are all in our early 30's. The idea of the trip is to do something we've never done before or see someplace we've never been before. That's it.

Boundary Waters was unbelievable. We got an outfitter from Ely to hook us up with gear and maps and we were off. Truly great and unique experience.

I would like to do something a little more relaxing this year as we've already done quite a bit of outdoor activities.

There are some great ideas so far. As you start to think of more ideas, try to focus on either a destination (ie, Idaho) or an acitvity (ie, sailing). If you have specific trip ideas, please feel free to post those as well. Thanks again.

The Horns play at Colorado next year. You could hit the game, maybe catch the Broncos and do a little trout fishing/hiking. There's casino's up there as well. Oh yeah, you can also drink a shitload of beer.

These are things I'd do, so keep that in mind (I'm a horse person).

Dude ranch... working horse ranch, not a day camp with TV & spa & "cowboy songs @ night". Literally hundreds of places to choose from. I'd pick the place that could set you up on a combination of the best horse, the most rugged & remote + an outfit that needs the most added revenue. It's not a great way to make a lotta money (the average working cowboy probably makes around $ 12,000.00 per year... feel free to tip).

Guided horse pack trip with remote fishing; I know of some folks in Southern Colorado in the San Juan National Forest / Weimanuche who run a B&B - the husband has his outfitters license & occasionally takes people out for extended trips & fly fishing (also does guided Elk hunts as well).

Glacier National Park in Northern Montana has a series of chalet's & you can take horseback rides from one to another. No heavy slogging required on your part.

Horse guided & hiking in Bryce Canyon / Zion National Park. If you're even remotely into photography, some of the most amazing photos can be had here.

Horse guided trip to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. You also get the chance to take that new 'see through' walkway that goes out over the canyon by around 65'. The Link

RHorn,

This place may not fit, but I was there in late September and it was unbelieveable.

They have direct, float-plane service from Seattle to Sonora Island or else you fly into Campbell River, BC and take an hour boat ride to the resort. Wild, isolated, great food and accomodations. Scenery and fishing are insane...you can heli-trip to glaciers, view grizzlies, etc.
