I need a radio

I will be working during the Sunday Super regional game (if neccesary) and the CWS (assuming we make it), and will miss most of the games.

What I need is a reccomendation for a small hand held radio that will pick up 1300 am, that cost around $30.

Thanks in advance.

I just ordered an AM/FM/TV Weather radio from Amazon the other day for $37.

Sony radio

The reviews I've seen have been very favorable. I wanted something w/ a strong AM band for picking up the Texas games (most stereo receivers have very poor AM tuners). I went looking at most every store in the area last Sunday to try and buy it--Best Buy, Ultimate Electronics, Sears, Target, Circuit City--but the demand for these items must be pretty low since I couldn't find AM radios let alone the Sony anywhere. Clock radios & shower radios yes, but nothing just to have handy outside.

I ordered it from Amazon & chose the free shipping so it probably won't be here until after this weekend. If you're desperate you could up it to next day or overnight, but that's gonna get pricey.

You might also check Radio Shack. They had a pretty handy looking handheld radio w/ similar features as the Sony on clearance for $40. It wasn't much bigger than a pager & even had a clip for attaching it to a visor or your belt, but since I couldn't pick up 1300 inside of Lakeline Mall and it didn't have an external antenna I passed on it.

Good luck. People tend to forget how useful a good reliable AM radio can be.

find something you can hook an external antenna to if you can, seems like there's so much crap floating in the airwaves these days that a.m. is almost useless.

AM radio doesn't generally need an external antenna. You need to turn the radio itself. To really help, you can get an antenna tuner. They cost a bit. You don't need to plug the radio in to it.

Also realize that AM is not going to carry during the day, but will have tremendous range at night.

Also always try to find a clear channel station; you should be able to pick those up anywhere between the Sierra Nevada and the East coast at night.
