I've been going to the Hyde Park Barber Shop for about 3 years. They charge 11 for a regular cut. I'm always happy with the result - and the ladies don't have any complaints either
. At least not about the hair.
They just changed locations. Used to be about 41st and Guadalupe, by the NeWorld Deli. Now they are on Airport 47th ish. Next to Erics Pool Hall, Amazonia (?) aquarium place.
Good guys. Don't get scared when they take out the straight razor - they go down the back/sides of your neck. I like it to give me a little longer between trims.
sadly, the scissors are the only thing that could possibly be construed as 'sexy' about that ******* shitpie. check out their website. they can't even hire decent looking models.
there is a really good one on mary and 1st. perfect for the south austin crew. $8. when I sat down the barber grabbed a pair of scissors and not that suck cut crap. have never thought you had to pay too much for a good cut. also i believe jeff ontiveros' uncle owns hyde park? good sports talk
you could do it yourself and save yourself some money if you have your own clippers already. but take caution, the last time i cut my own hair it took me like four days worth of adjustments to get it satisfactory for me. i hate those guys who cut their hair by themselves with only a clipper and it looks like a regular stylist did it.
or you can get a friend to cut it for free.
I like Adolph's. It used to be located in the old Westgate Mall. Since that got torn down, they've been in a little shop on the eastbound Ben White frontage just east of Manchaca.
My dad has been going to Adolph's since the 60's or 70's. Old barbers, men and women, that have been working there for years and years. Nice place.
Stay away from Don, the fat bearded guy. He has a short fuse and anything can set him off. Your hair will pay the price. Cisco or Ralph are fine. I go to James. Appt. required with him.
