I love Miggy Tejada

I don't care about the Mitchell Report, or how old he is or any of that crap.

Yes, I'm an Astros fan, but that isn't really the reason I love him. I've always kinda liked him and had him on a fantasy team a year or two, but never really watched him regularly.

The passion he has for the game, and his genuine love and excitement in playing it is awesome. He's been really fun to watch, and I'm not just saying tha b/c he's hitting approximately .783 on the season.

It's pretty nice when your SS isn't an offensive black hole. The extras MT brings are a nice little bonus.

I think as the season shakes out, this team will end up being very good with the bats. If Roy comes back around, and looks like he's on his way, and Backe keeps things going, this could be a .500 club. I could definitely handle that. A FA pitching acquisition, and a little more time letting the farm percolate, and we might be pretty good next year.

Next year might be the end of a window with this team.

Miggy is in a walk year next year, Carlos Lee is getting a year older and fatter, Lance is getting a year older and fatter and Roy gets a year older.

Bourne, Pence, Backe, WandyRod, Towles are going to be better. 09 would be a good time to win, but I'm not ruling out 08 either. If this team mashes like I think it will then they don't need a whole hell of a lot. And they look fair to good with the leather so far.

In the steroid era.

Traditionally, 27 was considered peak year with decline coming after that. 35 was just about washed up for the average guy. And it isn't like lance or carlos take great care of themselves.

I'm not saying they are falling off a cliff, just that they are not likely to improve and more likely to get worse.

I think the Astros will be great this season. I am optimistic after the last 4 games, and I am thinking playoffs.
I was hard on Miggy about the age deception thing, but he certainly does have a passion for the game that may be contagious, so I think I can handle the skeletons in his closet if he continues to make the team better.

Playoffs? I'll settle for seeing the team at .500 after the all star break before I'll even think of entertaining that idea.

It all hinges on the pitching, and I mean starting pitching. If we can get more performances like Sampson's on Wednesday, then we should do better than just .500.

Backe also needs to stay healthy and Wandy (when he returns) needs to at least be decent on the road and continue to be very good at home. Combine that with Roy-O and you may be able to hover 10-15 games over .500 before you factor in the 4th and 5th starters and the pen.

Even if we lose this one, Miggy T. with another clutch 9th inning. Triple sparks it, and we go ahead when Lance and Lee do their jobs.

I just don't think we have the pitching and the Rangers have proven for years that you can't consistently win with just beer-league softball numbers. And as far as letting the "farm team perculate" . . . what farm team?? We gutted that with the Tejada trade and Jason Jennings debacle.

The 'Stros will be fun to watch and they'll win some exciting games, but I don't see this team (or more specifically this pitching staff) winning more than 75 games. I hope I'm wrong.

Chest-

2, hopefully three things this astros team has going for it the Rangers haven't

1) A legit ace and cy young contender in Oswalt (hasn't he been top five like 3 or 4 out of the last 5 years?)
2) Good Defense
3) Hopefully a solid back of the bullpen. We haven't seen that yet, but I thought the bully would be a strength. It's early and still might be, but this is my biggest cause for concern this season so far.
