I love baseball

I am so jealous of you UT folks. It is a damned crime that CU doesn't have a baseball team. So, on a national level, I pull for UT to win it all. My best friend's brother pitched for them in the Burt Hooten era. I got to go down and meet some of the team. It must have been '70 or '71, I can't remember. I still remember the outfield had a cliff instead of a fence. The center fielder, I was told, could kind of step up the cliff using some dug out steps.

As far as MLB goes, I love my Rockies. I think we have something going this year. We'll see. But I grew up an Astros fan. Actually, I had a Colt 45's hat when I was a kid. Yep. I'm old. But not THAT old. Good luck to ya'll in the Big XII and NCAA! I'd love to see UT win the National Championship. Are you going to be any good this year?

My cousin pitched for ISU in the early 80s, and they no longer have a baseball team either. It's a real shame, too.

I went to the CWS in 2003 and had a blast. Aluminum bats or not, college baseball is an underrated sport played by kids who love the game.

Field needs to be grass - that turf has to go

DeLoss tells me it's a one run per game advantage for us to play on a home field with artificial turf.

How does that help us once we're in Omaha?

I have been told one reason for artificial surface is it gives us a leg up on Regional site selection if there are any weather questions. No mud. Just squeegee it off and play.

At least once a regional a blooper will go flying over the opposing outfielder's head when it bounces of the baked turf. That is a big advantage.

Turf is definitely a home field advantage. Our existing turf has about two to three more years of life left in it. Also, Augie didn't want to disrupt our player's workouts any more than they were...they were still able to practice during the stadium renovations. I have also heard that we are seriously thinking about going to the 'Turf Grass' when it is time to replace our existing rug. I have been on this type of field a few times, and I have to say, it's pretty nice...of course I'm not a player. I'm sure Augie will do what is best, when the time comes.

Yep, DBuff, it's a real bummer, especially for my cousin.

My cousin also works on Broadway in NYC, FWIW, and he threw sidearm in college.

Baseball is meant to be played on grass. I hate artificial grass. But, I have to admit, I don't know much about how a baseball reacts on the new field turf.

amen to that. I loved the Dome for many reasons (Astros fan, by the way...Husker fam, but grew up in Houston), but one of them was NOT AstroTurf.
