Lots of great pieces that look like they will be around for a while. I have modest expectations for this year, but the future is bright!

I agree. I think this year will be a huge roller coaster ride but the future is definitely bright. The freshmen are really good and the only one I see leaving before their junior year is Kabongo. Hopefully he'll stay at least until next year when we get some height on this team. We may not make the tourney this year though.

Agree. I have far lower expectations for this team than I normally do for a Texas basketball team. I just want them to make the tourney.

I am impressed and surprised by the great play of the three guards. Especially pleased and surprised by the scoring skills of the kid from Houston Bellaire.

J brown is a star in the making if he can control his temper.

Kybongo is making assists down low, scoring a little and just generally playing good ball.

I like it partly because of the upside and partly because I see this group staying relatively intact for another year or two. If we could keep these guys for two more years and give them a year with the incoming big guys, we could really have something here.

I assume it is sarcasm but if not the games have been on the LHN for some of them. UCLA was on cable but was a late game.(one reason I'm glad the PAC10 move didn't happen).

"We may not make the tourney this year though."

Twenty wins should still get them in. They need to go 14-9 for the remainder of the regular season for 20.

I'd be surprised to see this team lose 9 more unless they lose Brown or something.

"I know other teams are on TV:

I'm pretty sure every game has been televised, but mostly on LHN, which I can't get of course.

I have watched 2-3 LHN games on-line @ Firstrowsports.

While I like what Barnes has done at UT, and like this very young team, it is interesting to note rankings at 12/12/11:
The Link

Texas at 7-2 isn't even whiffing at a single vote for the top 25; not that it should, just comparing this year to Barnes' years past.

I hope they grow up fast and surprise me, but anything better than about an 18-11 or so regular season would be good.

Dance invitation might only happen with a couple of lucky wins in the Big 12 tournament and/or due to respect of recent years.

The Big 12 is going to be brutal on the Horns this year I'm afraid.

I looked just this morning to see if we were getting any votes. Nothing.

If we win tonight and beat Temple this weekend, we might start getting a few.

I checked the earlier polls this year; Texas was just out of the top 25 at preseason and early on; as was Temple.

Now neither are getting any votes.

But I guess Temple does have something going to have gotten some early recognition?

Watching the 2nd half of the Temple game ... we're a very skilled team. Not just talented athletes, but skilled basketball players. I can still tell just by watching that it's mostly young guys, but we definitely look good enough to make the tournament.

Chapman has become a pretty good passer - he feeds guards in the post better than than most of our guards have fed big men in the post for the past decade. And our whole team is absolutely destroying Temple on the boards.

A good 2nd half, after a pretty ugly start to the game.

One little nit pick. Kabongo seems a little lackadaisical at the line. He could probably improve his FT percentage if he would take a little more time before he throws it up.

If Chapman plays the rest of the season like he played today, we should all revise our expectations upward. He was a beast, and yes, is a decent passer.

A&m is getting walloped by Florida. Baylor and KU are the class of the conf but I think we are as good or better than any other team.

No reason we shouldn't be 19-12 and 9-9 in conf. That assumes loss at UNC, 4 losses to Baylor and KU, splits with OU, OSU, KSU, Mizzou, and A&M. We could very conceivably go 11-7 in conf play and then we wouldn't be on the bubble for the tourney. I think 12-6 is the high water mark for this team in conf play. That would be a pleasant surprise and with this conf, I think we'd get a decent seeding.

If we're good enough, we'll get in. If we are bubble and don't make it then it doesn't really matter anyway. Who's the last bubble team to make the final four or elite eight? And I mean bubble, not low seed because they were a small conference champion.

I'm still not sure if I like this team or not yet, but I think they should end in the top 1/2 of the conference which should mean a tourney bid.

Too early to say all that, I would think. It is a young team, and I think they are fully capable of blowing games like they did a couple of times earlier. The fun starts soon though. Today's was a good win to have, as it was our first top-150 win, based on the RPIs (which are of course not much reliable at all yet). Temple was #39 and we were #118 today. 10 of the next 12 games are against top-100 RPI opponents (except #192 Rice and #200 aggy). Let us wait for another 5-6 more games and then we will have a better idea to predict what might happen down the line.

Today during the game Fran Fraschilla said that this team is one year away from being a top 5 team............maybe a little hyperbole but you never know.

The BEST thing about this team is that most, if not all, will be back next year, to
combine with a great incoming class. We haven't had a lot of that in the last
few years and unless we keep a core to work together we will find it very
hard to go very far.
