ad nauseum ... but gawd our offense sucks ... 2 hits through 8 innings

1-1 .. Texas Southern with a runner on third no outs

Evil Knebel got out of the top of the ninth inning jam, now UT has a man on second with one out in the bottom of the ninth.
Maitlin on second, Brandon Loy is batting, 3-1 count. Now 3-2.

This game was scheduled to go seven innings, but is now in the ninth, so the second game will go seven. Loy hit one onto Comal Street, but it curved foul. Nearly ended the game, then he made the second out in the ninth. Mark Payton pops up to end the ninth. Onward through the fog, to the tenth.

Texas 2 runs on 4 hits, Texas Southern 1 run on 7 hits in 11 innings. Horns still struggling on offense against a not so good Texas Southern team.

In the second game, the Longhorns jump on the Tigers with 4 in the 1st and never let up. 11-0 in a 7 inning game.

Berthorn, have you seen our baseball team play? Look, I'm not making this stuff up about our hitting.

Although you probably don't believe this, I have two degrees from UT-Austin, but that doesn't mean I realistically believe our baseball team is going to Omaha this year. We can't even sweep good teams. I'm just saying our pitiful hitting is not going to get us past top-rated teams as we move into tournament action. The first test will come this weekend against A&M.

You do realize that the Regioinals, Super Regionals and CWS are for teams that are heavy with pitching, right?

The regular season is more for your bash teams.

I will take a team stacked with pitchers every year over a team that is stacked with hitters.

I believe that Augie will do what is best to put us in the best position to win the Regional, Super Regional and CWS.

That is definitely true, but you have to wonder how we are going to manufacture runs against top-rated pitching staffs when we are batting a paltry .267 (ranked 229 out of 292 teams with only Kansas and Missouri below us in batting in the Big-12).

IMO, and it's been this from day one, we are built to win a regional and have a hard time in the super. In the regional format our deep, strong pitching advantage will show up huge later in a regional. I hope we pitch Cole in game one against the 4 seed and get a win. Then Taylor dominates game two. Which would set us up great going against lesser pitching with our deeper staff. That should be enough to get us to the super. However, in the super when we match up with a strong, better hitting team also with solid pitching...trouble looms. Lot of baseball left, and hoping for the best. We definitely have a good shot to make the CWS, don't doubt that, but also the bats could cost us once we get to comparable pitching teams with consistent hitting. This weekend should tell us alot about the will of this club. With the conference (albeit even with a tie and #1 seed with two wins) and national seeding on the line, winning or losing this series against a solid top-10 team will be a greater indicator of what to expect when our feet is to the fire.
