I Kissed a Girl

Am I the only one old enough to confuse these 2 songs with the same title?

I will confess that until today I had never heard the Katey Perry song, I Kissed a Girl. I had always assumed it was some type of remake of the 1995 song, I Kissed a Girl by Jill Sobule. I will also confess I never remembered who sang the original until today. I just assumed it was the same girl and never could understand why the newer version was a big deal.
All that being said, Jill Sobule's song is much better, and I don't understand the big stink 13 years after a song with the exact same sentiment. It was played on MTV even with its own music video.
So am I the only one?

The 2008 version was a big deal because straight people might be influenced to experiment after hearing the song. Anyone who listened to the 1995 version was already gay.

Both of those songs are horrible. Katy Perry's 15 minutes is already up in the string of one hit wonder anthems by a female vocalist. Lady GaGa is currently on the clock.

I saw it on iTunes near the top of some chart a while back and thought it strange and figured it had to be a remake. I still haven't heard the most recent song. Maybe I would watch the video if it were well done, erotic and the women athletic, slender and between 18-40.
