Franklin Bank. Said they were making my atm card inactive. Problem is, I don't bank with them. The text came from 5000 (that's the name) and it did say to call a number. Am I screwed? Is someone trying to steal my idnetity? I wonder if I should call.
got that **** too (i have a 512 area code). i have gotten a handful of them in the past few weeks. i called it once and it asked me to enter my acct #, i hung up. its fraud bs.
just blocked all text msgs on that phone so they cant send anymore.
I think it's a phishing thing. The phone message wasn't very business like either. I'm just worried someone is applying for crap in my name, but I don't think so either.
I have gotten two of them recently too. I know others who have as well. I don't bank with Franklin either and know any reputable bank would never send a message like this. Sadly there are some that don't know that and these scammers will eventually get some that respond and fall prey to them.
I think it was somebody on this site that said they wished the penalty for this **** was much more severe bordering on sick torture to send a message it won't be tolerated. I think I agree and I have not yet been a victim of this fraud. But I have things in place with my bank in case it does. It will still suck though.
is it possible to block texts from all numbers other than your address book? probably a carrier by carrier thing, but just curious if anyone had that ability or something similar.
I got the text from 'Franklin Bank' on three of the five phones on my account. One of the two that did not receive the message was my son's. He actually has an account at Franklin, but knew about the scam.
The callback number was a (512) area code...Austin. I called the # from a land line and got an automated message telling me that due to too many frauds, they had cancelled my bank card, and in order to restore it I needed to input my 16 digit card #, then my 4 digit expiration #, then my 4 digit pin #. After I input twenty-four straight 1's, they told me my card was successfully reactivated.
I know some people are stressfully dense, but no one should ever turn over the requested info to anyone...ever...even at your banker's desk.
