I Guess I Got Scammed on E-bay - Right?

Ok, I "won" a bulky big ticket item ($2,000+) specifically because the seller was listed in Texas so that I could inspect (before paying) and pick-up (save shipping on 300+ lbs), but it was from a newly registered member with 0 feedback and 0 transactions. I was also is a very active bidding war against a newly registerd member with 0 history. After three e-mails to seller over 5 day, I get this back:

if the item didn't offer local pickup as part of the shipping options then you are the one that made the mistake. it doesn't matter where they live if they don't specify local pickup available.

i can't believe that you would buy something for 2G's from a guy with 0 feedback. you are braver than i.

yes, you got scammed. happened to me one with a pair of jordan IV's but paypal refunded my money minus about $20.

I don't think they managed to move somewhere over the course of however long the auction was. Sounds pretty shady to me. However, the above poster is right, unless they listed "local pickup" as an option, you have to pay the listed shipping price. Actually, from the wording of that email I'll be surprised if you actually receive the item, so you may be off the hook anyway.

Am I correct in my understanding that they want you to pay the shipping company directly? Will you be paying through eBay to do this? Do not make a transaction outside of eBay!!

Yes, looks like you got scammed. NEVER bid on a high ticket item (or any item for that matter) from a seller with 0 feedback. The other bidder with 0 feedback was the seller driving the price up. How many clues did you need? Don't answer that since I have some nice property in Florida that you would definitely be interested in.

The .ro (Romania) on the link is another clear giveaway, although after the fact. Contact ebay immediately and also Paypal who will help you get your money back (You did use Paypal, right? Hopefully not Western Union, another clear giveaway.).

also, to avoid a bidding war, only bid once with about 5 seconds left in the auction with your max price. You will only be charged whatever the cost is to be high bidder, which is not necessarily the max price you entered. At least that is what I do.

Just dont pay up. I once sold an item on ebay for $1500 and the bidder gave me the run around for a month before making up some BS excuse why he couldn't afford it. Ebay wont get involved. The worst that happens is you get negative feedback on your username.

Oh man, so the seller with no history is listed in Texas, has a romanian website, doesn't speak english, allegedly moved to CA, and had you bidding against his alternate login to drive up the price. Definitely legit. Just give him your bank acct number so he can withdraw the money himself.

No, I definitely didn't pay.

The listing was HORRIBLE and didn't mention shipping options or charges, so I sent three e-mails during the course of the auction to confirm that I could pick it up and a reminder that I intended to pick it up when I asked for an invoice through E-Bay. The above quote was the only response I ever received and that was send outside of E-Bay. The listing did say Paypal was accepted, so I just wrote back to him asking that all correspondence to go through E-Bay messages and insisting that I only pay through Paypal.

I (think) I reported it to E-bay properly, but it wasn't easy to figure out how to do it.

I bought a pair of A&M tickets a couple of days before the game on ebay. Paid probably $125 per ticket.... Nowhere does it mention they are student tickets although it doesn't say non-student. I called up an Aggie friend of mine before I submitted payment and lo and behold the section is the A&M student section. I emailed the seller and asked "are these student tickets b/c they are not listed as such". He replies that they are, didn't think it was relevant he replied. Whatever. I said cancel this, I am not paying. He didn't make a stink fortunately. I ended up finding tix the night before the game on craigslist, picked them up on my way to that horrible game.
