I got a new puppy. I named him Texas.

I call him Tex for short. I thought about naming him Pig, but I figured that'd be too obscure of a UT reference for anybody to get. He's a pure breed yellow lab, 8 weeks old. Picked him up with papers for $140.

I already got him a Texas collar, but its too big for him right now. In about 2 or 3 weeks it'll fit him. I also got him a burnt orange leash. I'm gonna teach him to bark when someone says Texas Fight, and growl when someone says OU or A&M.

May he bring good luck to the horns in 2011.

I looked for a camo sheep or a red horse to buy him to chew on but petsmart didn't have anything like that. So I got him a blue toy... because blue is the opposite color of orange.

A dog at a party I went to awhile back would bark when you yell, TEXAS. He did the fight part.

Since your dog is named TEXAS you may want to have a different command that is not close to his name. Don't confuse him. Maybe each time you say, "Hook 'Em" he barks. Just a suggestion. He won't discern the "fight" at the end of it as not his name. You don't want him barking at you when calling him or scolding him.

May I yell something at you?

yeah I considered that he'd get confused by Texas Fight, but he's so small that won't be a concern for a while. Maybe I will change it to Hook 'Em.

He's soooo cute!!!

I had a kitty, orange and white, that I named Tex. Unfortunately, he had a defective heart, so I had to put him down. Then I got another and named him Hook 'em. Unfortunately, my dog played a little too rough with him and killed him(at least I think that's what happened since I didn't see it and came home to him dead on the kitchen floor).

Needless to say, I don't have very good luck with naming pets after Texas or the like, but that's just me.

Your pup is a cutie and will be a good one!

Adorable puppy, congrats to you.

Be sure to teach him to play dead. That way when you ask ask him if he'd rather be a sooner or rather be dead he'll flop over dead.
