it takes him too damn long to say anything.....

"Thaaaaaaaank you"
"It's time for a chaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaange"
"chaaaaaaaaaaaange is coming to America"
"The pollllllllllllllllls are closing.."

did Obama just ask that the federal government give those who suffered tornadoes tonight in Tennessee what they need? Is there any situation where the federal government is NOT the answer for Democrats?

He said something about hoping the federal response would be quick.

It was a departure from "politics as usual" and not a a reference to Katrina though.

for the record, the federal government does declare tornado-struck areas as disaster areas, but they are not involved in the first response.

Hillary mentioned the tornadoes as well, but said nothing about a federal response. Instead she urged people to pray for the people in the area.

Is this a joke?

At least you can understand what the hell he is trying to say.

Unlike the guy in the white house now who never makes sense.

Or McCain who prefaces every sentence with "my friends" and closes it with radical islamic extremists.

He's a liberals liberal cloaked as some sort of maverick indy democrat. Never thought I'd see the day a guy made H. Clinton a mod Democrat. Or see a guy chop up the Clinton machine.

I hate his policies, but he's done something by doing that. He's a real politician.

using GWB is a strawman. As a fiscal conservative and social liberal (other than abortion), he's easily the worst President I have ever seen. The torture issue alone should have him rotting in jail and the worst is yet to come on the torture issue.

As for Obama, he is easily the most liberal viable threat to take the White House since it was occupied by LBJ. Given our fiscal situation (thanks GWB), that's the LAST thing we need.

Yeah, the Katrina references are just stupid. The federal government has never been a first responder in situations like that. In the entire history of the country, it has never done that. Post-Katrina, I guess that's not the case.

A Katrina like event had never happened.

It was FEMA's job to respond, they didn't because Bush made a horse race organizer the head of FEMA.

FEMA? your right.

grow up

If Superman himself was in charge of FEMA the levies would still have broken and the local government, you know the ones in charge, would still have had no clue.

Does Crash Davis right his speeches - I'm going to start an Obama drinking game with all his old, played political rhetoric.

It's rhetoric and Oprah pure and simple. Hope, Dreams, Change blah, blah, blah. He's getting the Oprah book push.

Huckabee is just as good a speaker.

There's a great post here about what Obama really wants to do. To compare him to Walter Mondale and Jimmy Carter is very spot on. Not saying he can't win, his ideas are very much the same as those mentioned.

If you're suggesting a cover-up about the problems with the levies, then my guess is the state and local government had to be in on it. Why did they do nothing? Why depend on FEMA and Bush's horse guy?

Don't get me wrong Ryan. I think your enthusiasm is cute

pevo
me too. Nice touch

I also like obama's health care plan. you don't have to buy insurance UNLESS YOU NEED IT AND THEN YOU CAN " MAKE SOME BACK PAYMENTS"
Brilliant

until Katrina, FEMA was basically known as an agency that provided a government subsidy for those that suffered flood damage, either through flood insurance or low interest loans. The loan benefits would also apply to other nationally recognized disasters. HOWEVER, with the complete and utter failure of state and local government in the wake of the Katrina disaster and the inability of the National Guard to respond on such grand scale, FEMA became the scape goat. FEMA isn't an organization designed or mandated to respond in the way everyone who is upset wanted them to respond. It became a huge political issue that was easier to respond with resignations and firings rather than reasoned responses which would include significant blame being placed on local and state government. Of course, some of that failure was due to the shear magintitude of the disaster, so its somewhat understandable.

Yes, it is unfortunate the Democrats want all that government money to go to help the victims of tornadoes in Tennessee and Kentucky. That is money that could all be going to Iraq.
