I can't let it go

I iknow it's just one game in a 162-game season, but I am haunted by last night's loss to the Yankees. To have a 6-1 lead and blow it the way the Rangers did ...

I dreamed about the game. It was the first thing I thought of when I woke up this morning. It's going to be coursing through my brain all day today. II thought the Rangers had finally realized that the Yankees put their pants on one leg at a time. A 6-1 lead and the best pitcher in baseball on the mound.

Only to have Lee struggle late and the bullpen blow it. I felt sick to my stomach and still do.

I feel the way I did after the Tech football game in 2008.

Nope, it's going to be quite a while before I get over this one.

Ditto. A truly painful loss. After the game my kidney stone even began to act up and bothered me all night (granted a pain pill helped me go to sleep). Hopefully we can take our frustrations out on the Red Sawwwwx. Uggggh.

Texanne, Texanne...

Back away from the ledge. Yes, it was a horrible disappointment, blowing a huge lead. But it counts only one game in the standings. Have we forgotten the nice W on Tuesday evening? When the Rangers play the damn Yankees in the playoofs, it will be a nail-biter - so we may as well get used to being on the edge of our seats.

Let's rebrew the mojo and get ready for the Sawx this weekend. Two of three against Boston, followed by two of three in Tampa will get the train back on the track.

We need to get all the zealots pumped up for this weekend so we can put the hex on Boston.

BTW, I was sixteen before I knew that "damn" and "Yankee" were two separate words.

I agree with Texanne on this one. I couldn't sleep last night b/c I was so frustrated. I was less irritated that we didn't get Elvis home from 3rd with no outs. I was super frustrated with our bullpen. How many times did we get ahead of guys only to let them off the hook by walking them. If we do make the playoffs and see the yankees again, I hope Frankie doesn't see the field. They are in his head. This loss tonite was vintage Rangers baseball. I just hope they can get over this collapse better than I am.

I'm not certain why Rangers fans are freaking out so bad. It's not like it cost the team a trip to the playoffs. The rest of the West is a joke.

Horns11,

I'll tell you why. That goddam New York team has been in our heads for years. They've stifled us completely. So we win in extras Tuesday night, and then we take a 6-1 lead last night, and we start thinking, "Maybe their hold over us is over. Maybe we've figured out a way to get them out of our heads and can compete with them on the same level. Maybe we are as good as they are."

And then here they come, right back into our heads and we're no better off. We see a five-run lead vanish, and Frankie Francisco looks like a deer in headlights out there. I bet his knees were knocking together.

Just when we think we're out, it starts all over again.

It has nothing to do with winning the West, which, as you say, is a joke. Some of us -- and probably some of the Rangers' players -- thought we might just be seeing light at the end of a very long tunnel, only to find that it was just another Bronx freight train coming to run us over.

Again.

Texanne I feel your pain. How did this happen? I too am still smarting over how that game got away... much like I look back at the insanity of the Rangers getting swept in 4 games by Baltimore a month or so ago

My biggest concern with the game last night was how the heat just drained Cliff Lee. he was dominant as usual and you could just see him hit a wall. This heat is unbearable right now and I think it will play a major factor in any chance of re-signing him.

i have no problem with last nite....i have no problem with 1996, 1998, or 1999.....my problem is that Cliff was thinking "damn it's gonna be sweet as hell having those guys behind me next year" while he was watching Frankie piss away yet another lead before it even gets to the closer.

Lee drained last night? You realize of course the playoffs are in October? The temperature will be like 95-97 by then. That's at least 10 degrees cooler.

In any case as much as last night's loss sucked (and believe me I cried myself to sleep), things will be fine and come playoff time hopefully these close games will help the youngsters like Feliz and Andrus who we are counting on to come through in the clutch.

And don't forget the long established formula for grief: Football grief = Baseball grief divided by 12.4615384615 (162/13). I may have thrown the remote through the TV for the Tech loss but I restrained myself and only punched a hole in the wall last night!!!!

Claw/Horns,

Love,
Ranger Zealot, "the new guy"

Wow I thought the whiskey wasn't coming through in my punctuation/spelling but apparently not. I swear I edited that 4 times or so . . . good times anyway!

The Yanks are good, the Rangers are good. It's damn hot in Texas right now for anyone. Lee hit a wall, probably not hydrated enough. O'Day was great, should have left him in a little longer. Frankie stunk...the fielders starting screwing up. Who's the Captain. Just needed some advice from Augie....

TP,

Anyone can pitch or make plays in the field in May vs the Tigers. This was The Yankees.

Not much confidence fans can obtain by that series, generally speaking.

Me personally, I'm not worried what that series did or didn't do for us. This group seems to believe in itself more than most teams i've seen....What worries me is Cliff Lee looking at the Yanks beat his arse again, & think to himself "it would be good to go to a team that doesn't piss away my lead before a closer can even sniff the mound".

Undoubtedly he's thinking of being a Yankee (next spring) a lil more today than he was a week earlier.....and that's what bothers me.

I still like the Rangers chances of resigning him. This is a really good team. In past years the Yankees would have swept them. They were making great strides all year, now it's time for baby steps. Just keep progressing.

TA, I had hard time dealing with it, BUT...it's one of 162. We get a whole new chance tonight against the Sawx, and I'm going to take the Mojo that I took to win the first NYY game.

If you promise not to think about the Tech game, I will try and forget the Colorado game in Texas Stadium.

Hook'em!!!
