Is this a big steaming of dung? Worth watching? Recommended?

...OK, saw it. I walked away feeling a bit satisfied, but largely unfulfilled. WARNING: MANY SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!

* The CGI was no Golem-fest, but was more respectable than much of what I read from critics.
* Practically BEGGED for more time spent Cast Away-style. Really enjoyed watching him crack, as if I could somehow see into the mind of a man on the edge. IMO, his time spent alone - specifically in the movie rental store - was allsome
* Did not like the viral-enhanced, super"human" talents of the wall-walking, head-banging, jaw-dislocating "vamps". Much bigger fan of treatment in 28 Days Later. More human element = more realistic and more dramatic (not to mention more believable)
* Dude, the bridges were destroyed = ISOLATION!! No WAY are that many animals and random unifected people visits possible. Sorry, I'll suspend disbelief a bit, but that is just tarded.
* The german sheppard....man.....that slayed me....enough said

getting hammered from critics. 57% on rotten tomatoes. OUCH.

that sucks bc i was really looking forward to this movie.

A lot of the reviews are mixed and most negative ones say that while Smith is good, the movie is not. Quotes like, "I wouldn't watch this movie again, if I was the last man on earth." aren't encouraging.

Book was real cool. I have been looking forward to this for a while, and with the special preview of dark knight its going to be even better.

from what I understand it's more of a remake of the omega man than an adaptation of the I am Legend book. If that makes any sense. I haven't read nor seen any of them yet.

i would say that its worth watching

not great but the way they showed New York was flat out amazing

Will Smith is great...as expected

it has a lot of jumps in it, it gets silly and it drags a bit

id recommend it but i would admit that i was hoping for better

This movie and Cloverfield are the movies I have been most anxious to see. I want to see how the night seekers are able to communicate, if at all.

Spoiler

Overall - disappointing. If you saw the previews you saw the highlights. I have a 5 yr old German Shepherd and had to put my 11 year old Shepherd down a few years back. The attack on the dog & later having to kill it was hard for me to watch.

I noticed the show ahead of ours was packed but people filed out pretty emotionless. Soon I learned why, and my audience probably looked exactly the same at the end.

I thought it was entertaining but nowhere near 28 Days/Weeks in terms of intensity or atmosphere. Having a star like Will Smith probably takes away from the dread factor. The film also couldn't find a balance between the action/scare elements and Smith's sadness and loss. He did a good job in both areas but put together there wasn't much impact.

I saw it in digital which was awesome though. There was a Cloverfield trailer - interesting but I'm a little worried it will be dragged down by its disaster-movie dialogue.

I didn't get a cloverfield trailer, but instead got a dark knight trailer. god this looks awesome. ledger will be great.

Overall I thought it was a good movie. I wish they would have gone more indepth with the night raiders/vampires. It wasn't like omega man in that respect.

****SPOILERS BELOW****

The dog being hurt, and then becoming infected/Will Smith having to kill it was probably one of the saddest things I've seen in a movie in a while.
All the jumpy scenes pissed me off. Some of them were good but others pretty pointless.
One person above said it dragged on a bit but I think it should of been longer. It was only about 1 1/2 hours. Probably should of been about 2. They could of gone way more in depth about the virus spreading/mutating/ New York becoming a waste land, and they could of gone more in depth on the dark seekers becoming more intelligent and organized.
Overall for me a B-. Could of been better but could of been a lot worse.

I agree with the above poster. I thought it was entertaining but could have been much more. A friend said it was nothing like the book, but I dont care since I havent read it.

i said it dragged

that said i completely agree, if they had taken that direction i wouldve loved for it to be longer, but the direction they took dragged imo

id still recommend it though as i said earlier

*****Spoiler Alert*****

The dog scene was very hard for me to watch. I don't mind watching people die in movies, but seeing the dog get hurt and then watching Will Smith have to strangle him, that was tough.

A few questions I have...

1. How did he get caught up in that trap in the first place? I assume he moved the mannequin and then set the trap at some point, and then later freaked out about it, just from starting to go crazy from being alone all the time. It just seems out of character for him to do something that careless, after taking such great caution with everything else.

2. Once he cut himself loose, then fell and got stabbed with the knife, he started to slide backwards towards the car. Why didn't he get up and hop on one leg? Was it just from the shock of the injury? He finally figured this out, but it was about 15 seconds too late. If he had done that from the beginning, the dog could've survived.

3. How did the woman and kid show up? We have evidence that all the bridges were taken out, yet they drive in from somewhere. Then at the end, they drive out to the survivors' colony. Are we to assume that a few bridges weren't destroyed?

4. Why was one of the night-seekers so much more powerful than the others? He almost seemed like he had something personal out for Smith, especially when he started tossing the others aside in the lab scene.

5. Why did Smith kill himself at the end? Too often in movies like this, the main character does this and it pisses me off. When that night-feeder had the glass partially broken, Smith could've thrown the grenade through the hole and then climbed in the hatch with the woman/boy. Assuming a 10-15 second delay on the grenade, this would've allowed him to survive. At the very least, he could've thrown the grenade through the hole and then ducked behind something. Instead, he just runs at the glass full force. I don't get it.

Wow you really wiffed on spelling mannequin.

1 - The vampires set it up, I think, to trap him. They were hiding out in that building with the dogs.

2 - Dramatic license

3 - Good question, I was wondering the same thing

4 - Because Will Smith stole his woman. That was the same one who came out into the sun at first when he trapped the female that he experimented on and eventually "cured"

5 - A couple of things; first, he dies in the book, so I don't think they felt they could have him survive in the movie. And secondly, in most movies, when the protagonist's wife/kids die in the movie, he dies at the end to "be with them" - it's a classic Hollywood technique.

Sorry, more spoilers....

On a related note to my question about how the woman/boy got to Manhattan, how did the deer/wildlife get there? Is there a place in Manhattan that has deer? Otherwise, I'm not sure how they would make it there, seeing as to how it's an island and we assume the bridges were destroyed.
