Based on what I watched tonight, I think this is a very good Texas team, not great, but very good. Like I stated on the prediction thread, I thought the lack of a pass rush LSU would carve our secondary up. At times, yes, we got pressure and a couple of sacks but overall I saw what I expected to see.

When the polls come out tomorrow, you will see LSU jump to 2 or 3 and Texas fall to somewhere around 15. This will reflect that voters only care about the win-loss column and not what they see with their eyes. I would challenge anybody to list teams currently ranked below Texas that honestly believe that we would lose to them on any field, i.e. home, away or neutral.

I am not clamoring that Texas is Top 5 material but that we can beat anybody currently ranked below us. The idea of the poll is to rank how you think teams match-up against one another and who is the better team. In this case, the current ranking predicted that LSU was the better team. In theory we shouldn't move at all since we lost by a score and anyone who watched the game saw that we were never really out of the game and had many opportunities to actually win it despite our defensive performance.

Obviously this can all change from week to week, but right now I still feel that we can beat most teams in the Top 25, including some ranked ahead of us. This offense is the real deal and they played for the most part outstanding tonight especially the O-line and skill players. I also think that Rochon (spelling??) should be starting over Keontay. He just seems like a more aggressive player and he will only get better with more practice and reps in game settings.

If the defense can get just a tiny bit better we can control our own destiny for the rest of the season. Great game tonight and a real treat for both sets of fans and college football in general.

Texas looks like a top 10 team this year, but not a top 5 team. Our secondary leaves us vulnerable in the Big XII and we could potentially lose a few more games without improvement. Our offense can outscore anyone (except maybe OU), so we should still win 9-10, but the defense has to step up.

I have no doubt Texas is the best team in the Big 12. Oklahoma has a offense similar to LSU, but their defense looks more like Texas State. I think we crush them and win the Big 12. If we can avoid the let down game, I think Texas goes undefeated the rest of the way.

I think that the polls influence the CFP committee. The main reason is that they can't watch every game so the polls give them a narrow view of who to watch.

Both D's were scorched. Our Run Defense seemed better than theirs but our Pass defense was worse.
I just can't figure how you give up a 3rd and 17. This game was close. When we ratcheted up and went "air raid" in the second half we closed the gap.

Every team is ultimately still playing to finish as high as possible in the polls. That is what every team has been playing for since they were invented and still are. The CFP is the way to finish #1 in the polls and almost certainly in the top 4.

Our secondary got eaten because we have a weak pass rush as LavTech showed last week.
Our running backs are decent and relieve opposing defenses of paying a lot of attention to them.

This game played out as I expected but we are a lot better than I expected at this point in the season

This year may be very good if Ehlinger stays healthy.

I disagree. NO WAY LSU offensively rolls on Bama like they did us last night. Bama reloads every year with NFL talent and elite coaching. I’m not saying LSU is dog meat...they are a potent team. And OU will be OU....meaning, we will have to be something we’re not to beat them....that is, can we build a smothering defense in the next 5 weeks? Doubtful!

Herman has proven he can coach his teams up as the season progresses. But, boy, he sure is a slow starter. We have a long way to go, but for now we need to laser focus on winning the Big12....CFP is a fantasy and unfortunately was 2 weeks ago as well. I felt like this would be another rebuilding year....2020 is more hopeful.

We shall see how we progress, but who knows, we could win 10 or maybe 8-9 games. I’m not gonna panic, but try and remain patient and trust that TH stays true to form and will get this team back to a major bowl. That is all!

All of Texas' goals are still in front of it, last night was a tough pill for the defense but they are young (dont forget we lost 8 starters from last year). Texas will hopefully learn from this loss and the season can totally change come October 12, assuming they dont stub their toe before then.

Espn/sec view it was a blowout and the amazing new offense of lsu (which took advantage of our weakness of inexperience all over the field on defense) was just a tsunami that rolled over us. Just ignore what we did to their dominant sec defense because it is of no consequence and the tiger defense didn’t care in the second half since the game was wrapped up at halftime. In short, listening to the announcers lsu announced their presence with authority and we shrank before them and the mighty sec as the pretenders we are. Ergo, lsu moves into top five, possibly top 3 and we drop out of the top 15 at least, based on the espn narrative alone. Do not believe your lying eyes.

My brother was at the game. Just spoke with him. I told him almost exactly what you just said.

His take, being at the game, is that it was a dog fight. He said LSU fans know that they got out of there with a win but Texas probably should have won. No trash talk from any of them.

I told him it was unfortunate and I allowed myself to be swayed by Cesspool Boy and Rece Davis and their slobberknocking of LSU throughout most of the broadcast.

I saw one team that expected to be there and the other team fighting for respect (but with 1st half jitters). We just needed to keep it close in the 1st half to win. The dropped TD pass in 1st qtr and that poor time management at end of half sealed our doom.

Yeah it was interesting on the one pass Stingly knocked away CJ it was all about the Frosh against “one of the best receivers in the Big 12” and not one of the best in the country.

There was also a catch by, I think Duvernay, where he shook off a tackle for loss by the All World Delpit. Herbie spent more time talking about how the usually sure tackling Delpit somehow missed. He then sort of gave credit to Duvernay for making an athletic play.

But, that was the sense I got all night. Texas didn't really make good plays, LSU just made mistakes.

I sure hope so. When Orlando was hired I posted some concerns about his passing defense trends not being very good. Then last year I posted that I thought all of the praise for the defense was too much because while they were significantly improved from the year before, they still weren't really great. Now the secondary is getting torched albeit they are a VERY young group. Maybe any coach would have similar issues in this situation. I'm still concerned that he just isn't very good a scheming against a passing game.

I’m glad I didn’t have to hear any commentary on the game. Being there live, we looked out of it late in the 2nd qtr but the rest of the game, Texas outplayed LSU! We gave this game away in the first Qtr with the dropped TD catch and 8 plays inside the five and no points. We played like warriors in the second half to make up for the loss of a TD. In the end the defense couldn’t make the one stop they had to make. 3rd and 17. But to me, Texas can still improve and win the B12. They WILL get better especially on D throughout the season. I think we’ll beat OU. No need to panic this was a great loss. We played great and LSU can beat Bama this year, I think they’re that good. Texas can and should finish 11-1 this year or 10-2 worst case.

Given the obvious experience advantage they had, I would be inclined to say that we out coached them. That’s not to say that I was thrilled by every call and every scheme, because I wasn’t. But in general I would be hard pressed to blame Herman and his staff for the loss.
