I achieved a milestone the other day

I'm still not sure how I feel about it, either.

Shadowdancer and I went to the movies Friday night. I paid for the tickets. Evening showings at our local theater are $7.50 for adults, but the guy charged me only $11 for two tickets.

He applied the senior citizens' discount. The little **** didn't even ask me if I qualified -- he just gave it to me.

I suppose this (looking old but saving money) is better than when some smartass waiter cards me, thinking it will "make my day." Do these ******* waiters actually think I am going to believe that he thinks I look young enough to be carded? What an insult. I call them on it, too: I say, "Son, if you're trying to flatter me into giving you a bigger tip, it ain't gonna work. I know I'm old, you know I'm old, so improve your tip by giving this old lady good service."

Texanne,
Welcome to the club! That happened to me about four years ago when I took Mrs. HHD to a movie in Fort Worth. I looked at my change and slowly figured out that I had been given the Senior Citizen discount. At first I felt insulted, then it occurred to me that I had saved $4. Now I simply accept discounts when available and put the savings into my pocket.

I'll have to admit that vanity overtakes me every now and then - when I go to the Golf course, I ask for the military discount and show my Retired ID card. Same discount, but it avoids having to use the word "senior."

Some establishments require their waiters to ask for ID from absolutely anyone that orders alcohol. The new waiters will tend to follow that instruction, but the ones that have been there longer seem to have more common sense.

That's just from my experience, though, I don't know if that's what happens in your situation.

On opening day of the last year the 'stros were at the Astrodome I had to buy beers for 2 octogenarian women who didn't have ID. Some people just have no sense.

I think some restaurants require their waiters to do so. No ID no drink. Technically, if tabc walks in and wants to card everyone with a drink and, even if you look like the lady from Kingpin (you know the one) and you don't have an id, they can get in trouble.
